Hi everyone,

I'm potentially in the market for 2 new purchases.

1. A flat panel computer monitor. I'd like it to be 15" or larger.

2. An external hard drive for my Windows computer

I don't really know what to look for in either of these purchases. I would like some help in choosing and also any advice as to where to buy/not buy from. Thanks in advance everyone.

Look at the Samsung 710N (712N in retailers like Best Buy) for your monitor, they look downright superb, and are priced very well. Or there's the 910N for a bit more if you want 19". There are also the 710T and 910T for digital DVI input for the best picture quality. I am going to get a 710N for my mother's system pretty soon, and I would mind a 910T for myself.

For your external hard drive you should buy an internal one and an external case (over the internet, retail stores really rip you off with external HDD cases). You can save a LOT of money doing that.

Agreed. I use a nice USB 2.0 3.5" HDD enclosure I bought for only $35. Works great.
