Beginner's Guide To Tube Audio
Audio Reality
I got both of these a few weeks ago. The reviews at the above links are better than what I was going to write.
There's nothing headphone related in any of them, but there is more than enough useful info in them for anybody interested in designing and building their own amp from scratch - or modifying an existing design.
If your idea of being an audio design guru is knowing which names to drop when discussing capacitors or resistors, then you won't like these books one bit. Swapping out caps doesn't make an audio expert any more than smearing expensive mustard on a Big Mac makes a gourmet chef. In other words, they aren't for the "ignorance is audio bliss" folks.
Anyway, after reading both of them, diving into the deep end of DIY audio looks a lot more tempting.
