I'd like to put together about a 18V nimh pack that will fit into the tiny hammond 1455C801 or 1455C1201. So I would be looking to fit it into 47mm by 70mm(or more) by 22mm. What cell sizes should I look at?

2x9V "E" block batteries in series will fit ?

EDIT: I was thinking the 9.6V variant + a 8.4V if it must be 18V, or kust 2x9.6V to leave some headroom.

2/3 AAA nimh cells should fit into the space you have.
They are about 30mm long by 10mm dia.

As for capacity they can be found in around 300-400mah, so i hope your
circuit is not too current hungry.
I use these cells in an 8cell pack myself, and they make for a nice compact
light power source.

I hope you can find them OK as they are bit of an unusual size,
mine were sourced from a RC model battery pack supplier.

I've tried "standard size" 9V batteries, and couldn't get two to fit. And it wasn't a question of volume, because there's enough space for it, but the case was too narrow at the screw rib to fit them in side-by-side.
I'll search on the "E" block batteries.

ya, I'm looking at the: http://www.hammondmfg.com/1455.htm
1455C801

It's perfectly "pocket sized" and appears to have the volume I need. The standard 9V doesn't fit, but a special 9V might, and a custom pack should fit.

Whats the series # for the clear blue case?
