I'm looking for a closed, around the ear pair of headphones that doesn't require an amp. I want to use the headphones for both VOIP and a wide range of music. Looking to spend under $150. Somewhat light would be a plus but not required.

a few sets come to mind when i think of sub $150

-used phiaton ms400
-denon d1001 or D1100
-Audio Technica M50
-Shure 840 or if you can stomach on ears, the 750DJ

outside of those, I wouldnt feel okay recommending anything else for something around $150.

Voice over Internet Protocol?
Well, wouldn't that mean that you want a microphone attached to your headphones, or in other words a Headset?

Now that I think about it, I haven't ever seen anyone talk about audiophile headphones with a mic on them since the day I first joined this community. Personally, I have bad experiences with Headsets since every headset that I have owned broke on me real fast. I now prefer to have an external mic.

I plan on using a conference microphone with the headphones. I'm fed up with headsets and I want to get back into using good headphones.

I'd go with the Audio Technica M50.

If you're only using the headphones with a microphone, look at the Sennheiser HMD25-1 II.

Way above your budget, but probably the best headset available, especially with the sound quality of the Sennheiser HD25-13 II.
