okay. i've been lurking around looking for really good headphones for about 100 bucks. you older members have probably seen many posts like this. but help me out if you could. i don't want to spend over 150 bucks on headphones though.

i don't like the ear bud ones. idk if theres a special 'forum' name for them.. but they don't feel that comfortable in my ear. i want the 'around ear' headphones i know for sure. noise canceling i'm not sure yet. but, it'd be cool. i was thinking about buying the Sennheiser 280 pros or the 280 silvers.. i don't know what the difference is except one is silver and more expensive. i'm gonna be keeping these with me probably on my neck and i don't want them to be visually unappealing. the 280pros are kinda bland and ugly in my opinion. sorry.

let me know guys! much appreciated. thanks.

i listen to all kinds. hip hop, pop, (yes, i'm young) classical. jazz. anyway.. i like the bass feel but i NEED the crisp and clear tone. but, these headphones i'd like to use to listen to a lot of acoustic music. stuff like, boys to men or Alicia Keys. OH and i'm not interested in hooking up an AMP or anything to my headphones.. just straight from my ipod or laptop.

There are several common choices in this price range:

The beyerdynamic DT770 has a lot of powerful thumpy bass, however can sometimes be a little less clear than you would want.

you can find the DT770 new for ~150 on ebay, and used here for ~125-140

The Audio Technica a700/900 has a pretty clear mid-high section, but has average bass power. It is there, but not loud or boosted in volume. a700 = ~100 used , a900 = ~130-150 used

You might also look for a pair of AKG k240 studio. They have good bass, and a clear focused sound Less than 100 new

I should also mention the a700/900 and DT770 are closed, while the k240 is a semi-open design.

Grados don't do well for classical and jazz though,

I agree with jgonino, A700.A900 has quite a bit of bass and are pretty clear - good all-rounder.

Actually I happen to have a pair of a900 I would be willing to sell. Send me a PM if you would like them. we can work out a price and shipping...

I would start with used HD580 & amp; the senns are great all-rounder.

He wants the Bass feel though, not sure what that means, I'm assuming thump. Would be dissapointed with the grados. For a first set of decent phones in that pricerange I would recommend Denon 1000's.

Try SR325i, good bass, crystal clear with crispy top. But you may need to spare some extra cash first. I think its worth to do so.

oh. sorry i think i was kind of unclear of that type of bass i wanted..i like the crisp bass sound. not boomy bass. if you guys know about car audio, i have two 10s. i use to run two 12s however that gives too much 'hip hop' bass instead of a nice crisp thump. if you're unclear of what i'm talking about, just say so. haha. but wow! i've been on many forums and you guys are actually really helpful. most blow off noob posts like this. but thanks a lot for all the welcomes!
