Word of caution: you'll need a larger backing if you try to upgrade from 30GB to 100GB.

I don't know if this is discussed on this site, but I thought I'd let everyone know that if you go to rapidrepair.com you can have your 30, 60 or 80 GB 5G ipod ugraded to 100 GB. I had mine done.

Going from 80 to 100 wouldn't be that big of a jump. When the manufacturers can double it to 160Gb I'll be on it in a heartbeat.

Wait until August 7th and your prayers may be answered.

What's happening August 7th?

New macs are being released.

People seem to think that there will be new iPods, but that's highly unlikely since the press event is "mac only"

It will be the same size as the 60 or 80 GB.

60GB has slightly thinner back panel compared to 80GB. 80GB iPod is very close to the thickness of 60GB 4G iPod.

Be wary of doing upgrades if you plan to DIY, specially going from 30GB to anything above 60GB. The back panel, the battery and most importantly the ZIF connector will need to be changed because the ZIF connector ribbon for 30GB iPod will not fit current ZIF drive properly (not without force insertion which beat the purpose ofr ZIF)

I don't know if Vinnie would do that, however........Rapid Repair does it for you for free, you just pay for the harddrive. I landed up buying a brand new Ipod.......and did not open it, sent it away and for a reduced price (because it was new and they could keep the 80 GB harddrive) I had them switch the 80 GB and 100 GB harddrive (i also had them put in a much more powerful battery) THEN>>>>> I shipped it off to Vinnie and had him Modify it for me. I'm not at liberty to say what Rapid Repair's reduction price was, but if you're willing to send them a brand new unopened ipod..........be prepared to spend very little extra. I think it's worth it especially if you are encoding your music at a high bit rate.

Ya, Vinnie said he will repair and install any new parts into the 5g iMod because of how delicate the mod is. If you open it and install it though, it voids Vinnie's lifetime warranty.

nevermind, they have them at rapidrepairs.com.

They also list 120GB harddrives for 5g ipods. But 300 dollars! You could just buy a second ipod, or wait till apple releases a bigger one...
