Hi, i'm using the 0404USB, but may consider getting the Corda Move cause it can be used as a stand alone... anyone did a comparison between these 2 in terms of the SQ?

i think many here would say that the emu 0404 usb's DAC is better than the MOVE, but the amp in the MOVE is better than the 0404's.

i think the amp is decent enough. lots here say its barely good enough for low impedance/low power-hungry phones', but i think they work great for most headphones. but then again, i never had anything like a k340

Sooooo, what else is the purpose, if the headphone amp isn't a dedicated headphone amp?

Doesn't make sense at all what you're saying, they put in a, wayyy above avarage, Class-A headphone amp, just for the looks?

My DT-550's are driven pretty good out of the E-MU 0404 USB, and they're 600 Ohm IIRC (else they're 250 Ohm, but don't think so).

So that's a Class-A headphone amp they built into the 0404USB? Or is it actually more of a headphone jack built-in for convenience like those found on receivers?

Yeah, it is a real Class-A amp, although it won't deliver lots wattage (K340 is indeed no go), it will give most headphones more then enough power to sound good (enough people who use(d) them with 595's, 600's, 650's, etc). It sounds ALOT better then those things on recievers, which are most of the times really just for the looks.

For the OP, i'd say, if the 0404USB DAC is supposed better, go for it. If you want to upgrade in the future you can always buy a real hi-end amp, until that time the 0404's amp will fo fine.

Yea, it drives them ok and it drives my Sennheiser 595's ok too but have you compared it to a dedicated amp? I now use an amp and the EMU 0404 as a DAC only because even the 595's improved with a better amp. More bottom end. I use the 0404 amp with just my Koss KSC75's though. If a deeper bass isn't important to you then the amp in the 0404 is good because it gives out detailed highs and good mids.
