0404 questions

I just got a great deal on an open box 0404 at Micro Center for $50. Not really thinking too much, I jumped on it. However, I am a little confused regarding how to hook this thing up. Already found the thread regarding the necessity of the breakout cable/adapter in order to hook up an external amp; how can I just connect my regular 2.1 computer speakers that are terminated with a 1/8" jack. Also, if I hook up a amp, can I still listen to the speakers as well? I noticed that Fid-Audio offerst a breakout interconnect with an optional additional 1/8" input; will this work? A little confused right now, any suggestions? Also, with the additional cost of the breakout cables, is it worth going for the 1212, major jump in sound quality? Previously owned a NAD 541i, would love to get that level of sound back on my PC.

Well, first off, you don't need custom breakout cables. All you need are the proper adapter to take the dual mono 1/4" outputs to whatever aplication you need. If you headphone amp has RCA ins, you need a pair of 1/4" mono to RCA cables, like these: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...se_pid/339009/

Or, if you need to plug in 1/8" stereo, like your PC speakers, you could use that above cable, one of these: http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=274%2D883
and one of these: http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=274%2D886

Or, you could have custom cables, made, or a custom breakout made with the right connections for ya!

If you want to be able to switch back and forth between your amp and speakers, you need a switchbox with whatever kind of connection you want to the 0404, and whatever kind of outputs you need to connect your speakers and amp.

hope this helps!
