    Study Phones

I have Koss Porta Pro's that are great through PA2V2 on the go or direct from laptop. For more critical listening K601's and Little Dot I+ satisfy. While studying I am comfortable listening to Classical Music on XM Boombox when home alone. Just realized that I am easily distracted when I am not...

New Sony MDR-ZX700 & MDR-Z1000 are now in the U.S., but don't look for it on Sony Style site.

No signs of them on Sony Style web site, but looks like jr.com has the MDR-ZX700 in-stock, but not the MDR-Z1000, yet.  I'll call them tomorrow for a price on the Z1000 and ship date.  I ordered the MDR-EX1000 (IEM) from them last week and they shipped on Friday.  I should get those on Tuesday...

"Denons, but not Denons" a.k.a. what are the other nice closed headphones?

In comparison to the pair of my Denon D5000s in which the screw has broken and I couldn't afford a repair and I had got to sell, another screw in another place of D2000s I have had got only yesterday, just have broken. I'm totally frustrated with the quality of Denon headphones and even with...

Are There Any Closed headphones Better than the D7000 for 500.00-1000.00

I've been looking for a good closed(woody preferably) headphone for a change of pace from the open cans I have now. The Wuss was nice enough to let me audition his d7000, and I immediately liked them. So I recently bought them, and they are a nice change of pace from my other cans. I really like...

    DT48 vs Z1000. Any opinions?

It occurred to me that the headphones appear slightly similar in the way they're designed.  I have never heard either.  If I were to venture into one of them, which is the preferred pair these days?   Thanks!

    Calling all Sony MDR-Z1000 owners.

Just wondering, where was your MDR-Z1000 made in?  Thailand or Japan?

    Sony MDR-Z1000 vs. MDR-7509HD?

Has anyone compared the two? Does the MDR-7509HD still has a place in the studio?

    Sony MDR-7520/MDR-7510

I was browsing Gearwire.com for some NAMM news and stumbled upon these. They look pretty similar to the Japanese MDR-Z line. So, are they basically the same with a slight paintjob to look more professional?

    Cost-no-object cans

What are the top of the heap, other than Stax? And how much $ are we talking - the $1000 range.   I have a $30K main system and am looking at the prospect of having to do a lot more listening with headphones - which right now I use only at the office. I listen to AT 900 Ltds there. Just...

Diary of a Madman (My wild one day CES ride)

Just completely exhausted atm.  Been up since 3am, drove 300 miles, pranced around CES for 7 hours.  Only North and Central Halls.  Not enough time for South and the Venetian so no high-end toys today.  To be elaborated upon once I regain consciousness.  Till then.  Some quickies.   UERM v...

Going to Hong Kong in two weeks. What should I buy?

I understand that the Asian market has headphones we don't have in the U.S.  Is there one I should look for and perhaps buy?  I was thinking Sony MDR-CD900st, but I already have a MDR-7506.  Do I need the CD900 too?  Anything else comes to mind?

Sony MDR-Z1000s- impressions from a short meaningless in-store audition

I had a chance to audition the new Z1000s at a headphones shop in Osaka yesterday. I was in a somewhat noisy store and was restricted to using my iPod as source and amp. There was a set of Edition 8s nearby so I could back and forth with those a bit. I probably spent close to 30 minutes with...

    Setup Options

I don't know if this thread is on the right forum, but it was the forum that seemed closest to the subject. Anywho:   I've finally decided to invest in a full sized rig.  Throughout the last couple of days I have researched the topic and have come up with a rough outline of what I want my...

Comfortable iems for less than $100

After spending years buying and replacing cheap headphones within a matter of months, I have decided to step it up a notch, and get a decent pair of iems. The main problem is that I have very sensitive ears, and can't stand having to push the phones in too deep to get a good seal, I had to...
