It's not a balanced amp/dac.

Is X1S audio output work with balanced cable? How do I know if headphone amp is unbalanced or balanced type?

Balanced cables generally dont look like your average headphone jack as they are often XLRs. If you're "normal looking" jack has 4 sections to it, then it is TRRS, which means its probably balanced (unless you have a control talk).

But yea as Brooko said the X1S is single ended only. If your cable is balanced, you can buy an adaptor to make it single ended.

A bit of a simplistic and crude explanation but hope it helps!

Hi folks,

So am I understanding it correctly that the X1s lacks the "p-line out" function that the earlier versions of the X1 contained, and hence does not have variable output via the RCA outs? In other words, unlike the earlier versions of the X1, it cannot be used as a preamp connected to an external power amp for use in a home stereo. With the earlier versions of the X1, you were able to connect a turntable to it via a phono preamp into the RCA ins of the Aune and use the Aune as a preamp in a home audio system (my power amp has no gain control). But is it true that you can no longer do this with this X1s version of the Aune X1? I'm thinking of buying it, so any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes ,the pre-amp fucntion of the previous version of X1S was witch through the replay , transferred the headphone amp output to the RAC of the back .
New X1S gave up long lines design and replay switch , if you want to achieve the pre-amp function , you can use a 3.5 to RCA stereo line , output from the front headphone sockect , in this way , X1S can work as pre-amp .

What benefit are there using this method? If we use USB end to end, what the difference compare to 3.5 to RCA stereo in sound?

Received the Aune X1s today, absolutely loving it so far. You can view my unboxing video of it here if you'd like.
