OMG, Epic write up. Thanks man I really appreciate it. I actually do plan on using the Paradox outside as well (Most likely starbucks or some other place I can sit down. I won't be jogging or going to the gym with them.)

I'll also be using them at home of course as well. Yeah that upper-mid recess on the LCD-2s really got annoying after a while, wish they would just correct that. I think it's pretty cool you actually prefer the Paradox to the TH-900 and LCD-2.

One last question I had for you was, do you notice any harshness with the treble? I only ask this because the Mad Dogs I tried were very dark overall (recessed-upper mid issue) but also had weird peaky treble at times. I would descrbe it as harsh at times, while my HE-500 is much brighter overall (and closer to neutral) yet still has smooth treble without any sibilance.

I read on another site that Fostex drivers are inherently unstable after 2k? not sure if this is correct, but wanted to get your opinion on this.

The Mad Dog also did not have enough air and sounded muffled/closed in at times. Does the Paradox feel like this as well?

Sorry about all these MD comparisons. I do realize the two headphones have nothing to do with each other and sound completely different, but I'm just worried that it might be an inherent driver issue that can't be corrected through dampening and other tinkering.

This is how I use my Paradox when I'm out. I also use it while walking around. I use IEMs when taking transport for better isolation.

As I already mentioned in my review, there is no harshness or peaks with the treble at all. The treble sounds completely neutral and smooth. Let me know what songs you hear treble harshness with your Mad Dogs and I could have a listen for you. Low bitrate or recompressed tracks tend to have harsh treble.

What does "inherently unstable" mean? I'm curious about this.

Air according to my definition is upper treble. If that is what you mean, then yes it indeed does have plenty of air. There is no way I would consider the Paradox muffled/closed. They are the most open sounding closed headphones I've ever heard.

The Mad Dogs and Paradox have A LOT to do with each other. Some listeners say they sound incredibly similar and use similar modifications. I'm very surprised to hear negative impressions of the Mad Dags from you. If you really don't like the Mad Dogs you probably won't like the Paradox either since they can't be that too different. I've never heard the Mad Dogs before so I can't give any comparison.

That was my impression as well, check preproman review comparing two, link is in a second post of this thread (not sure which version he used though).
Unless of course there was something terribly wrong with your particular MD.

Well my version 3.1 lasted all of two weeks? before Dan switched to 3.2, so not sure if what I experienced was representative of others' Mad Dog experience. I did read Preproman's review. But I really hate him so I don't care what he says.

(I'm kidding of course. I love Preproman.

i am late into this paradox/maddog stuff, just started seriously looking into this direction over the last few days really.
( actually bought a t50rp way back when, but sold it almost immediately upon hearing the stock-sound, no bass impact, subdued highs..zzz snorrzz )

i read a few post above, PARADOX > Fostex900  ??
is this the secret brewing here...wow this will save me months of overtime$$$.

Paradox's strength is its utter neutrality and clean decay. That is an entirely different profile from TH900s, which are known for the euphonics, resolution, liveliness, and impressive bass (quality and quantity). Saying one is better than another is like saying the best bicycle is better than the best canoe.

Its not the the Paradox is better than a 2k phone, is because each one of us have different perception on how music should sound.  I love my Paradox but in times when I want to listen to certain type of music let say rock I mainly use my RP-18 but for jazz I always use the Paradox for it black background.  For vocals my W3000ANV are very good.  Each phone has it own strength and weakness.  The Paradox is what I call a phone that can do it all, a very well rounded phone.

What I want to know is more info or impression on LFF new project phone.  A HE-6 killer supposedly.

I have it on very good authority that the Paradox and Mad Dog are NOT similarly constructed/modded.  Dan (Mrspeakers) uses a VERY different modding scheme than LFF does.  Mrspeakers' mods are more in line with what's found in the (bible-length) "WOW...just listened to a T50RP" thread.

Since LFF does not reveal his modding techniques (and neither does Dan), how can we reliably know that they are not similarly modded?

Looking inside the headphone.
