Neither. I'm selling both. Get the ATH-M50 instead. Amazon has them for all around the same price.

lol but these two are sort of the only thigns available in my area and m50s are 190 in my area way out of my price range so doesn't anyone know how these two specifically fare against each other

The 280 are IMO nice cans but a little dark in sound. The Shure is more natural and better across the board IMO. I returned the 280.00 but for 89.00 they were nice.

If i have to choose between the HD280's and the Shure's. I go for the 440's...the highs mids and lows are well balanced.
Give them a listen if you have a chance!

I have had the HD 280 for a few months. got them at the beginning of 2010. It dies get better. the bass does open up, the highs get less shrill. So just burn it in like crazy. non-stop for like 50-70 hrs. if you don't do that, you are going to be stuck with a crappy sounding headphone that is actually very good.

i got the hd 280s like 3 or 4 days ago and have been listening qquite a bit. i called where i got them from and they said theyd exchange for the 440s no problem and give money back that needed to be given (theres a 20 dollar difference) so i wanna know as quickly as i can what i should do and im thinking of just playing music all the time, like all day all night on the headphoens to burn em in is that safe?

If you are not liking the sound signature from now, i think you better go for another model (shure's)...IMO.

Sorry for the 3rd option... They're all about the same price for me.

Between the 280s and the 440s, definitely get the Shures. The mids are more natural and balanced and the highs are more refined. The 280s have slightly heftier bass but it's a little muddy IMHO. Plus the Shures are more comfortable and have a user-replaceable cable.
