The German Maestro GMP 8.35 D Monitor in the studio... serious about audio, INDEED!!

Acix, I am very interested in these phones. I am in SF too. I am looking for a better pair of reference phones than the AKG 702s. If you are capable of letting me hear them I would appreciate it - PM me .

I heard the DTI phones at a music store in Montreal with the Nakamichi players a few years ago. I was blown away by the sound, because I was expecting bad sound the the DTIs sounded darn good. They looked cheap with the plastic molding and metal sheathed cable, and I looked for DTI on the web but didn't come up with much. I remember I thought they sounded very detailed and balanced with a big soundstage.

I use the 8.35 as companion to the K702, more for tracking and monitoring kick bass in the early stages of the mix. The 702 I use for positioning the instruments, eq and compression, bouncing the effects, and polish the mix and the mastering process.

I have had the 702s for about four months, and I don't really like them. Maybe I don't have the right amp combo, but I'm looking for something else that will be easier to drive.

I have been using them to listen to different builds of audio playback software and hardware, and I need to have a very detailed and transparent sound. Even though the 702s sound spectrally neutral, transparent and detailed, I can't hear difffrerences nearly as clearly as I do with my Sensaphonics, HD650 or even the Nuforce phones.

So I would like to try the GMP phones.

I LOVE the K701 on the Essence ST and it´s amp... It was a revival for this headphone. But on the Pro 900 and my speaker it´s a bass monster lol.

Have you heard the open 400? I am thinking of trying out the 8.35D and either or or both the 450/400

. But since they seem to be the same just one is open and one is closed (isolation/wider soundstage) I have a hard time choosing.

Europeans can order directly from German MAESTRO - Powered by MAESTRO Badenia
They have a good consumer service. I mailed them once for replacement earpads, and got an instant reply with a reasonable price and shippingcosts.

Much different then the arrogant Beyer people who ignore all emails.

That sounds really fantastic.

But, i'm probably old-school, in the fact that i need to listen before I buy...

I received the new GMP ear pads. The first one I tried was the oval shaped ear pad, see photos (soft-foil black part number 41-6050). What great pads! The first thing I noticed was that they are much thicker than the original pads and the sound stage increases dramatically with much better depth, which is surprising for closed hps. Finally, the GMP 8.35 can compete with Ultrasones and the K702 on the sound stage.

These pads have super insulation and they're very comfortable. The hole in the middle is bigger than the original pad and the ears have more space around them, so now I can position the cups like my K702. This fantastic insulation tightens the bass with better resolution and the whole FR scale becomes more clear and detailed. Now the other great thing about these pads is that they come with a net that protects the driver. The sound flows directly to the ear very clearly and transparently, which makes them sound like high quality open hps. The sound can be easy compared to the AKGs only with better detailed bass. With these pads it's very easy to track down the bass in the studio.

Compared to the original pads, which sound more intimate and slightly darker. I'm happy to get this second option, which changes the characteristics of the headphones. These pads bring the GMP 8.35 a step forward. They sound very natural with a great timbre, yet with the best bass.

The serial number.

The back of those pads, looks like the back of the Pro-900 pads

You can see the net that protects the driver...
