Pros: smooth sounding , harman target curve tuning ,balanced vocal presentation , good technicality
Cons: nozzle too short somebody will facing fitting problem
Hello, I'm Ah Hui aka Mr Wong. I'm a K-pop fan and audiophile from Malaysia.

First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Hifigo for lending me this review unit and giving me the opportunity to review the Tanchjim hana 2021 .

I heard their tanchjim oxygen is quite popular due to its great tuning and technicalities.
How about the HANA though ? Is it worth it at the sub-$180 usd price range? Let's find out!

Configuration of IEM :3rd Generation DMT Technology Dynamic Driver:

Price of IEM : US $179.90 from hifigo official store .

Comfort: Comfort is great. It fits securely in my ears and I dont feel any sort of fatigue after long hours. However, the nozzle is a bit short for me so I have to use bigger eartips to get them to fit

Design : gold colour and white faceplate design !
PRO:
smooth sounding , harman target curve tuning ,balanced vocal presentation , good technicality
CONS :
nozzle too short somebody will facing fitting problem
**Disclaimer : This reviews done by KZ starline eartips (L size) and stock cable .

BASS: The bass here is punchy ,layered and fast response .When I listen to IZ*ONE - As We Dream ,I can feel the sub bass is punchy ,layered ,fast response. However, I do think that it is a bit bass lite for this song.

MIDS : Balanced midrange presentation with crispy vocals. When I listen to this Female Vocal track called fromis_9 - Close To You(다가가고 싶어) . I really enjoy the vocal presentation on here as it is balanced and crisp. However, I prefer a more bodied and detailed female vocal presentation. In my opinion, I think the female vocals here are not detailed enough. . How about Male vocal ? Male vocal is balanced sounding. When I listen this track called 许冠杰 - 大家跟住唱 , it's balanced but I think it could have slightly better body

HIGH :well extended and smooth. I feel smooth when listen the Daft punk - Touch, the treble feels smooth in this track . It is also well-extended .

SOUNDSTAGE : it is deep and wide. When listening to the teitur - Stormy Weather, the backgroud is deep and wide with more sense of space in the background .

IMAGING : it's about decent .When I listen to teitur - Stormy Weather ,I can pinpoint the instrument and the singer on stage .It has good stereo positioning.

Details : detail retrieval here is about decent When I listen to some tracks, I can pick up on the micro-details.

Conclusion:
Overall I feel the soundsignature of tanchjim hana 21 It's harman-ish , smooth sounding ,and quite enjoytable. IMO, it is suitable for long listening sessions. In terms of cons, I think the mids part can make more body it will better i will recommend the Tanchjim hana 2021 if you like the harman-ish tuning .

Tanchjim Hana 2021. a feast to the eyes

Tonality: 6/9
Technicalities: 5.3/9

(5 mins read)
my first relationship with Tanchjim was through Tanya and it's getting stronger ever since. so I've been always wondering what Tanchjim has to offer from their top-shelf even before Tanya. apparently, they have this thing called "Oxygen" which is well known as one of the best single dynamic driver IEMs in the world by many enthusiasts, but that's Oxygen. while Hana has a very close frequency response, build, and shape to the Oxygen, does it perform, if not the same but close to the Oxygen? is it a mini Oxygen? I can't answer that but according to some reliable accounts, it's not the same as Moondrop Starfield to KXXS kind of comparison and sadly there is no such thing as 'mini Oxygen' until now.

Tanchjim re-release the Hana as Hana 2021 with a new tuning that seems to soften the mid and treble peaks to achieve a "more neutral and smooth in the treble orientation, and the overall sound that is more delicate..." according to Tanchjim. it's also has a new look that's more... 'feminine' with a new gold paint job which is further in the direction of the jewelry part of accessories. I can imagine where they're going especially with the recent release of Prism.

* I'm using Azla Sedna Earfit Light because others just don't work for me. it's like a shorter Spinfit with a wider bore. comparing to stock tips, Azla Sedna helps to produce a better instrument separation & layering, better accuracy & clarity, better soundstage & imaging = better music reproduction. no more blurry, hazy, muffled, chaotic, or congested sound. you don't know your IEMs' true capabilities until you tried Azla Sedna Earfit Light. buy a pair and hear the difference! (I have no affiliation with Azla whatsoever. wide bore [Azla] rules! but seriously they should pay me money)

I think the wide bore ear tips are suitable for the Hana 2021's frequency response but I'm using Azla Sedna for the reasons above. the stock cable is nicely built, with a pair of beautiful connectors (although the L/R indicator is a little hard to see), well in some way it sounds a little too bright for my taste. the copper cable I got gives a more 'earthy' tone that makes the bass more solid while tames the treble. it also provides a better separation, but I'm using the stock cable for this quickimp.

my preferred signature is neutral with or without bass boost, with an exception for a little warm-tilted, or mild V-shaped but honestly, I'm a "signature agnostic" because anything can work. I listen to mostly everything but currently lusting more on the modern sub-genres of Jazz, Progressive Rock & Metal, Drone, Noise Rock, No Wave, Minimalism, Totalism, modern recording of Chamber, Orchestra, Concerto, or Modern Classical at large. I’m a musician myself and very passionate about music & music reproduction.

FR & Tonality
the bass is fast and lean which is something that I can appreciate and adore very much. but does it play well with other regions? the answer is yes. it slams hard without any bloatedness or muddiness even with my clean Topping EX5. really good slams. its fast attack, short and smooth decays are the selling points for fast tempo music. progressive metal songs like Between the Buried and Me's Extremophile Elite & Mastodon's Capillarian Crest showcasing a perfect example of good bass agility from the sub-bass to the mid-bass with good texture & dynamics, though I'd love a little bit more body. the rumble is surprisingly quite deep with a satisfying amount of bass coming from a single dynamic driver at this size.

the mids also go along & are nicely glued to the bass and treble. the lush mids gelling the mid-bass and lower treble, connecting these regions fluidly & coherently. everything seems perfectly tuned. it does a great job at reproducing pop music like Nancy Ajram's Ah W Noss & Dua Lipa's Don't Start Now.

its punchy yet controlled continuation from the bass, clean & clear mid-range presentation is capable to please my brain. I love what I'm hearing right now. the timbre, the tonality, the dynamics. it's so pleasant to listen to. but be informed, albeit retaining the ability to intercept any sibilance from the treble, it can be a little aggressive & energetic at times.

while not being the best treble I've heard, it does embody all the mandatory elements that I can think of as a good treble reproduction. the upper treble gives ample sense of air and space though I'd love a little bit more extension to the reverb & room depth. nonetheless, it's never too forward or shouty like the presentation on let's say, the fad ThieAudio Legacy 3. Hana's treble extension is just a little shy from what Blessing 2 Dusk is offering. but to be frank, it's still very good coming from this small single dynamic driver. I can say the tonality is more organic to compare to Blessing 2 Dusk's glassy BA timbre.

hana2021c.jpg

size comparison: from top left Moondrop Blessing 2 Dusk, Tripowin Mele, Tanchjim Hana 2021

Technicalities+
the sound stage is above average with good height, width, and depth though it doesn't quite reach my preferred standard. while having a considerably good sound stage, the imaging size is rather 'smaller' than what I used to (emphasis on the 'imaging size'). while having good imaging, it feels overall thinner and that in my book, makes it dipping into the warm mild V-shaped territory. a good kind of V-shaped I suppose.

the instrument separation & layering is just slightly better if not almost equal to the cheaper Tripowin Mele in my opinion. not the best separation if you ask me, but wholly acceptable. like many single dynamic driver IEMs, 3D imaging is almost non-existent.

hana2021b.jpg

Tanchjim Hana jewelry edition: like a perfect spice; it always complements what's already there

Conclusion
Hana 2021 is undoubtedly one of the best single dynamic driver IEMs I've heard up to this point but the existence of Oxygen for a little more money challenges the objectives of purchasing a pair of Hana today. in my opinion, it could be the top choice among all other Harman-tuned single dynamic driver IEMs if priced at a little lower price tag. from my consumer perspective, Tanchjim is somehow overshadowed by its counterpart whenever it comes to price to performance value.

I can see Hana as a perfect gift with its beautiful look, package & packaging as a whole unless you'd want something more low-profile like I do. but seriously, companies like Tanchjim (Moondrop too) really need to put more effort into making and providing the right ear tips and cables because they do not get it quite right even until now (emphasis on 'right'. ps: Azla Sedna exists). to be honest, that's all I care & that's all what people need in the first place and at the end of it all. other than that, I don't really bother much about the packaging or accessories.

thanks for reading.

thanks. I got the long ones because the short ones have a narrower bore width.

Tanchjim Hana 2021 is Tanchjim's latest 1DD IEM offering at the sub-$200usd price range. It retails for $180usd and features a 3rd gen DMT technology Dynamic Driver (same as the OG Hana). In terms of unboxing experience, I think Tanchjim nailed it. Upon opening the beautiful rose gold themed square box, I am presented with a beautiful white compact carrying case, 2 different types of tips (wide/narrow bore), a 3.5mm OFC cable, backup filters, and lastly, the IEM itself.

The overall presentation and unboxing experience of the Hana 2021 is amazing. Just like most of Tanchjim's products, I find their product presentation and unboxing experience to be pretty amazing. Everything is just well thought out and premium. Not to mention, Hana 2021 comes with backup filters too which is always a plus for sure. Definitely one of the better unboxing experiences I've had.

Unboxing aside, for those that are unaware, Tanchjim Hana 2021 is basically just a retuned Hana. They tamed the upper mids peak of the OG Hana, making it now graph SUPER CLOSE to the infamous Tanchjim Oxygen.

Hana vs O2.jpg

Tanchjim Oxygen graph in courtesy of KopiOKaya

Is it as good as the Oxygen though? I can't say as I have never tried the Tanchjim Oxygen. However, what I can do is review the Tanchjim Hana 2021 as it is. So with that out of the way, let's start the review.

*Disclaimer: this review is done using stock wide bore tips and stock cable. I find the wider bore tips to sound more balanced. Narrow bore boosts the bass.

Tanchjim Hana 21.jpg

PROS ✅:

  • The overall presentation of the Hana 2021 is airy, balanced, and wide. I would describe the sound signature here to be Harman neutral, with an ever so slightly tilt towards warmth.
  • The bass here is punchy, warm, and airy. It is decently detailed and textured too for a 1DD IEM. In terms of sub-bass extension, Hana 2021 is able to go down deep and slam hard. It also has a good amount of mid-bass, making Hana's bass punchy and dynamic.
  • In terms of the midrange, I would describe it as natural, open, and slightly warm. Hana 2021 has a slight preference for female vocals though, with female vocals sounding ever so slightly forward in terms of presentation. On the other hand, male vocals sound slightly relaxed at times. Nevertheless, the midrange on Hana 2021 is great. Both instruments and vocals sound pretty organic and natural, with a wide and open presentation. Not to mention, I quite like how vocals are presented here with the Hana 2021. Be it male or female, vocals here sound open and airy, which makes listening to vocals (especially female vocals) an absolute joy.
  • Treble here is well-extended, balanced, and airy. I love the treble here as it is well-articulated with very good air presentation. Each treble notes sound airy and snappy, which makes the treble here far from boring sounding (unlike most Harman-tuned IEMs around). It is also pretty clean sounding, with no graininess whatsoever. Overall, pretty happy with the treble here.
  • In terms of soundstage, it is wider and taller than deep. I would describe it as being somewhat like a baseball.
  • The imaging here is good too. It images wide and open, fully taking advantage of the wide soundstage that it has.
  • Overall transient attacks are sharp and snappy, but with a smoother, more natural decay which contributes to Hana 2021's open and airy sound.
  • Timbre here is amazing. It is organic and natural sounding. Zero complaints here in terms of timbre.
  • As expected from a Harman tuning IEM, the tonal balance here is exceptional. Hana 2021 works with any genre you throw at it.
  • Very easy to drive. Apple dongle is more than enough to drive the Hana 2021. Heck, even your phone's SE out is more than enough. I'd still recommend upgrading to a better source though, as your phone's SE output isn't the best.
  • Very good price-to-performance ratio. The overall package you get here for the price you pay is amazing.
  • Love the overall Rose Gold aesthetic that the Tanchjim Hana 2021 carries. What a looker! Love the overall presentation and unboxing experience too. Everything feels premium and well thought out. Great job Tanchjim!
  • Very good accessories set. Great case, great tips, great cable. No tip/cable rolling required.
  • Backup replacements filters are always a plus.
  • Wearing comfort is great too. Fits my ears like a glove. Sits pretty flush too. Perfect IEMs to be used for sleeping

CONS ❌:

  • Soundstage depth could be slightly better.
  • Harman tuning could come off as too boring/smooth to some.
  • Bass could be tighter and more impactful.

TANCHJIM HANA 2021 ($180USD) VS TFORCE YUAN LI ($119USD):

Hana21 vs Yuan Li.jpg

  • Both are just sidegrades IMO.
  • TForce Yuan Li has tighter more impactful bass, slightly warmer mids with a much more intimate presentation, female vocals are slightly more relaxed, with male vocals sounding slightly fuller. Treble is smoother and darker, less airy. Soundstage is much smaller in terms of width, with slightly better depth.
  • Tanchjim Hana 2021 is much easier to drive. Its bass isn't as tight, midrange presentation is more open and airy, female vocals sound ever so slightly more forward, and treble is just better with better treble extension and air presentation. Soundstage is noticeably wider with a more natural decay.
  • In short, if you have an amp, go for Yuan Li. If not, stick to Hana 2021. Both are amazing for the price and you seriously can't go wrong with either. Both highly recommended by me.

TANCHJIM HANA 2021 ($180USD) VS TANCHJIM TANYA ($22USD):

Not a fair comparison at all, but if you are looking to upgrade from the Tanya, this might be useful for you.
Tanchjim Hana 2021 vs Tanya.jpg

  • Tanchjim Tanya needs amping to shine. It is noticeably more V-shaped than Hana 2021, with more mid-bass and earlier sub-bass roll-off. Its bass is warmer, more bloaty, and more one-note-y. Midrange is warmer, more recessed, with a slightly more forward vocal presentation. Treble is much smoother and darker. Soundstage width and height are roughly the same. Imaging and transients are much blunter. Overall, Tanya's technicalities are nowhere near Hana 2021's level.
  • Tanchjim Hana 2021 is much easier to drive. It has better bass detail, texture, slam. It has lesser mid-bass bloat, wider more open midrange, with an airier vocal presentation. Vocals aren't as forward as Tanya, with treble that is much better in terms of detail, presentation, and air. Imaging is much more accurate here, with snappier transients. Looking to upgrade from the Tanya? This is it.

TANCHJIM HANA 2021 VS OG HANA:

No comparisons will be made between these 2 as I have never tried the OG Hana. However, I do have the FR Graph for the OG Hana (courtesy of KopiOKaya) so here you go.

Hana21 vs OG Hana.jpg

IN CONCLUSION:

Tanchjim Hana 2021 is yet another IEM that is very hard to nitpick on. It has good bass, good mids, good treble, and great technicalities. Not to mention, it is also very easy to drive. With Hana 2021, a cheap Apple/Samsung dongle is all you need to make it sound good.

Sure, its asking price isn't cheap. At $179.99usd retail, most will expect Hana 2021 to overperform the slightly cheaper TForce Audio Yuan Li, which retails at $119usd. However, this isn't the case here. As mentioned in the comparison above, Hana 2021 is just a sidegrade to the Yuan Li, and I stand by that statement.

Nonetheless, I'd still highly recommend the Hana 2021. Don't forget the Yuan Li requires amping to shine, which means that the overall cost of the entire setup is much more expensive than, let's say, Hana 2021 with just a $15usd Apple dongle.

So yeah. If you are looking for an easy-to-drive IEM that just does everything well and comes perfect OOTB (out of the box), look out for Hana 2021 as this might be it for you. Not to mention, if you are looking for a serious upgrade from your Tanchjim Tanya, look no further as I think Hana 2021 might be perfect for you.

This review unit is provided by Hifigo in their Hifigo review tour. I am not at all compensated by them and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Yo! I'm 100% with you, bry, i think they're VERY clean sounding IEMS. I'm more a headphone guy, so... I have to say i found the soundstage of some few IEMS and these very in your face sounding. Hana can be mostly around your forehead, but not a better than the cheap t2. The thing of Hana is: the sound is very ''full'', they can embrace all the space around you, but it's small... Very intimate presentation to my ears. It's nothing compared to a open back headphone. The bass is like you said, it's not punchy by any means, and i think my ears doesn't cope with the graph, but is probably just my ears. They are very clean sounding, but they're musical, they have a good note weight to the mids, but not to lower frequencies, the lower frequencies are texturized but softer, like punching a transparent pillow. You hear it all, but it's ''pom'', not ''tum''.
