SONY MDR-XB30EX-B Black | In-Ear EXTRA BASS Headphones (Japanese Import)

Sony is known for the color of sound and quality product as we all know. This one is not any exception and does the job for what it is named "Extra bass". If one is on tight budget and enjoys sound having emphasized bass then these earbuds would be good choice. Now coming on the build quality, which is awesome. I have only issue with the cable which is not completely tangle free which some how does it's job well. As the clip included is not good according to me so there are lots of microphonics get in ,while simply walking .So don't event thing of running while wearing these on,but still they do their job well.
Now about the sound quality let me be more specific in this area. As their name suggest their sound has much emphasis on bass but still they some how loose their grip on sub bass area. keeping this in mind the mids and highs are not that compromising, they all are present but bass takes all attention  towards it and thus the sound color looses its sharpness and energy. I am not a bass head but still I enjoyed these pairs.

This is my ultimate choice for the budget,my 3rd one is here (lost one and broke the other one).Good overall sound and fit for budget plus reliability.The Bass is a bit overwhelming at times (not very sharp) but you get used to it after sometime.IT SOUNDS BETTER AFTER ABOUT TWO WEEKS OF USE. 

These iems are better than some entry levels (Shure 215/ hifiman RE0/ RE 400/ Sennheiser CX300) with a wider soundstage due to the 13mm dynamic driver , however need serious burn in for at least 50 hours to shine , lack sub bass and treble , perfect with vocals (Norah Jones / Yael Naim/ Celine Dion), not so convincing with classical music even at 24/96, bass not punchy enough for electronic /dub but should be fine with reggae, pop and alternative genres.
 
Can be worn over the ears with this combination : ( R over left ear , L over right ear ) , good isolation , should avoid lossy and bad recordings

I bought this at the Sony Store and regretted by purchase for the first two days. They were very dull sounding. I found myself searching for eq setting to get some high frequency response. But on the third say I noticed the treble opening up. Previously select EQs became to bright. These will never be Grado-revealing, but the highs opened up to reveal a nicely balanced earbud. I won't even mention the bass because that was always fabulous. If you like impactful powerful bass, these are your earbuds. And once they open up, they have a highly listening, if warm, presentation. Good detail and a satisfy overall signature for lovers of warmer phones. These are very nice earbuds and I am ordering a second pair, despite them being solid and well constructed. I prefer these over entry level Shures and others I have tried, included buds costing $100. A very pleasant and low kicking bud!

Just wanted a bit more bass since it is XB series

here's a weird thing about them: these sounds punchy and more enjoyable if worn around the ear (worn somehow like se215), if worn normally, these sound little bit muddy and mainstream, unrefined and lacks punch. i don't know why, but it's true (might not work for you, don't blame me). wearing them around the ear is a bit tricky though!
 
Sound: After burn-in (and worn around ear), the soundstage is large, bass extended well and punchy. Good quality recording sound surprisingly good. Hard to believe, these sounded so muddy and dead after unboxing. These got exceptionally better with burning in and wearing around ear.
these have smooth treble without annoying peaks. The midrange is smooth. Bass doesn't veil anything. The bass extends low, has huge impact and punch. surprisingly, these don't need equalisation when listening to pc (foobar). very slight equalisation when using neutron music player.

These isolates very well too and quite durable. 
 
compared to my previously owned ex300 (these sounded very good, trust me), cx300-ii, ex85 or any iems had before, these are clear winner.
 
These are quite cheap you should give them a try if you're looking for big sound at small price.

lack of high fidelity sound, bass it way overwhelmed hinder the mid and high, there's a mid hump bass, not good enough sub-bass, no punchy drum bass pedal. don't buy it, it's not worth it. even philips she3595 is so much better when using EQ in poweramp app for android. lol
