Cowon, honestly, without EQ, sounds worse to my ears than Sansa Clip imho. 
 
Also, what headphones were you pairing it with? 

You say it sounds bad, but honestly details are needed.

Have you not boxed it? With Rockbox? You'll find the sound will be different :wink:
