Thanks for review, but there is a TINY thing called frequency response. You can consult it at Inner|Fidelity. Recessed mids, virtually nonexistent highs.
If you heared something about equal loudness curve, looking at range 2KHz-8Khz you will see a dirty trick to fool your perception of mids;
So except good design and manufacture they are just regulat-regular-regular headphones.

Listen with your ears, and dont get fooled by frequency response graphs.
Why would you ever put a headpjhone on your head when the graphs are your main concern?

Gorgeous looking headphone, only the gold details are really tacky.

Inner|Fidelity till now is the unique site where FRC's coinside with what I hear. So why should I care about design and finishes if hp would not sound good?! AKG K550 is way much better except they look dull. Everyone have a right to express his opinion, but I think people here talk about sound quality, not about fancy sparkles.

I havent heard them yet, so i dont comment on the sound. Graphs only tell you a part of the soundquality. But they do look gorgeous except those fancy sparkles :).

@edoluv FR curves can vary from site to site, as does testing practices. i.e. How long did Innerfidelity burn them in/Did they burn them in? Besides test tracks, I use test tones and sine sweeps coupled with a high resolution frequency analyzer, and trust my ears more-so than one site's graph.

The term "flat" is relative, not literal as no curve is truly flat! It's just a way to describe something. Treble doesn't technically have sparkle or shine as those are visual, yet we throw around those words and expect the readers to understand.

Let me ask you, why so much distain? Have you actually heard the 99 Classics? A someone who owns and has owned "regular-regular-regular headphones" from manufactures such as Sony, Phillips, Panasonic, Mee, SkullCandy, Monster, Beats (don't judge), even Sennheiser,  beyerdynamics, and Grado, all ranging in price between $100-$200, the 99 Classics are easily in a class above in terms of overall transparency and resolve. As mentioned, they have equal sound quality to my Momentums.

@Splutje  Actually, the gold looks tacky in pictures, I do admit as much. But much like what you said about FR curves, images on the screen only show so much. In person, the 99 Classics' gold looks anything but tacky; As a painter of models and miniatures, I find it to be tastefully done. Besides, there are silver variants available if you feel gold doesn't suit your personal tastes.

@edulov Innerfidelity's 'blue and red' frequency response graphs are compensated for the Harman target curve that Tyll likes. The grey lines are the actual frequency response:

That "dirty trick" is simply the fact that the 2-8kHz range aren't as boosted as the Harman target curve wants them to be, or at least the 2-5Khz range isn't. There's no denying it takes a nosedive past 10kHz but there's no money past there anyway.

Excellent, informative review!
I got a pair of the 99Classics in for review two weeks ago - and they've just broken-in nicely (and it sounds like they got a lil' ways to go) and I think Meze is offering a tremendous value w/ the the 99Classics!
Bravo
