Just ear XJE-MH1

General Information

The Just ear XJE-MH1 don't boast about its technical specs - as it won't win prizes for the most technically impressive CIEM (it is only a single dynamic driver and single balance armature hybrid). However they will still be your favourite CIEM for a long time, and very possibly will be the end game phone you are looking for. That's because with the MH1 even the sound is completely tailored to your taste. You tell Sony engineer and Just ear brand founder Matsuo Bandai-san what you want - even in non-audiophile layman terms - and he'll dial it in for you. The idea sounds simple but there's an art to this which is only doable by Matsuo-san and his team with his decades of experience tuning multiple famous Sony headphones and earphones (and now hundreds if not thousands of custom MH1s), and the results speaks for themselves.

The only down side? You can only get these made in Japan. Bummer.

Maybe they will be willing to expand their service if enough interest is shown from other countries. I know that if the price was right, I would be interested.
Maybe featuring these on Head-Fi and offering a review might help!

Same as getting US iems in Europe, whoever wants their products must pay additional custom fees and VAT and therefore price is never right for US products here.

That is true which is a real shame because there are so many excellent Japanese audio products. I guess I'll need to make a trip back there again.

I have demoed the just ear xje-mh2 (the "universal" model with no sound customization). It is hands-down the best in-ear I have ever heard and I have either owned or extensively listened to almost all the best iems on the market. Its soundstage is enormous, bass extends like premium subwoofers, and its vocals are the most mesmerizing thing ever. The only "downside" I could ever complain is that its treble is lackluster comparing to the incredible performance of its bass and mid-range.

A trip is certainly not enough. At least 2 trips (most people made 3) is necessary. During the second one, you speak with the tuner. And he will tune mh1 per your request.

How do we go about this process from US?
Till to this day, people need to fly to Japan, get an interpeter / translater to sign an appointment beforehand and then talk to one of the 3 or 4 staff of which at least Matsuo Bandai is fluent in English. Now there is a HK version of this CIEM releasing which has ear tips, no-more CIEM if people want to afford "lesser", yet expensive Just Ear IEMs.
