General Information

JLab marks the 5th anniversary of the best-selling JBuds line with the striking new J5. Benefiting from five years of evolution in design, sound quality, durability, and comfort, the J5 earbuds-style headphones represent the most universally appealing JBuds ever. JLab continues to refine our signature sound, fueled by a dialogue with thousands of customers on how different JBuds models translate their favorite tracks and genres. The J5's titanium micro drivers deliver an incredibly smooth and consistent response across the entire frequency curve, from deep, rich bass to full, luscious mids and crisp, vibrant highs. The all new 45° angle jack leverages the strength of pure metal with the durability of flexing rubber. The Y joint features the rugged exoskeleton pioneered on the J4, now more compact. The lightweight cable is reinforced with Kevlar for optimum flexibility and strength. Sleek housing ergonomics deliver an ultra comfortable fit with a satin soft feeling inside the ear. The J5 is so comfortable, you can barely feel you're wearing earbuds. The rear bass port offers the optimal mix of airflow to the drivers through an inset rear chrome grill inspired by Italian supercars. New Head-Fier
Pros: • Comfortable to wear and lightweight
Cons: • Right earbud makes a clicking noise (that some earbuds make, when applying slight pressure to the earbud while it’s in your ear).
With DAC ONLY
Pros:
  1. Best sounding headphone so far.   Sounds well balanced.
  2. Comfortable to wear and lightweight
  3. Mids – Cleaner and neat – (7.5/10)
  4. Highs – Not too overbearing – Clean but not crisp. Ok for long listening sessions. (6/10)
  5. Bass – Quality of bass is best I have heard so far - still average. (6/10)

Cons:
  1. Right earbud makes a clicking noise (that some earbuds make, when applying slight pressure to the earbud while it’s in your ear).  I notice some cheaper earbuds do this.  I think it’s the membrane inside flexing due to air pressure. Left earbud does not do this. Odd.

DAC & AMP (Tube) – Additional Comments
Pros:
  1. Warmth of Amp flattened sound again – But the headphone still sounded balanced.   This is the first headphone to handle the AMP warmth decently.
  2. Bass – still clear but got boomy – Handled as low as 30hz decently.  It is happy around 30 – 65hz.  It loses it around 20/25hz.   [actually got the earbud to shake a bit in my ear] (7/10)
  3. Highs – Stayed about the same – 6/10
Cons:
  1. Mids – Got lost a little with the warmth but decent still – 7/10
