Which begs the question - If the Fischer has emphasized bass and treble, then surely it suffers a bit from recessed mids?

Very interesting review. I don't have headphone and i have SE530. As, HD650 is comparable to SE530, i am very much interested now in FA-011 because of your comparision.

Interestingly enough no...it doesn't suffer from recessed mids at all. That was my main complaint from headphones like the HD-650 or DT990 or others with emphasized bass. The treble is ever so slightly emphasized but not by much.

One thing you don't talk about in the "build quality" section - what, other than the wood cups, is the FA-011 made of? Also, is it circumaural or supraural?

The FA-011 has wood cups, black metal mesh with a golden metal emblem stating the companies name, the frames are plastic, the headband is pleather and the upper headband feels like rubber coated metal. They are circumaural and very comfy!
