The FiiO LL-RD 2024 is an upgrade cable for headphones that support the dual 3.5mm interface on their ear-cups. The LL-RD 2024 utilizes high-end audiophile grade pure silver as its conductor material. The cable has a total of 400 cores across 4 strands, with a total cross-sectional area of 24AWG. The larger cross-sectional area of monocrystalline silver wires effectively reduces resistance and minimizes signal transmission loss, ensuring signals are transmitted quickly and reliably.

The FiiO LL-RD 2024 is coaxially braided. Each of the 4 main strands contains 6 smaller strands made of 14 wires each. Additionally, a special smaller strand composed of 16 wires is added to each of the main strands, resulting in positive and negative poles of 200 cores in total per main strand. Furthermore, a similar braiding technique with the same core count is also used for the shielding layer. This layer serves to isolate the conductor wires from external noise.

The 1.5m long cable is modular and has swappable 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced plugs. A 4-pin XLR adapter is not included but you can buy the FiiO LX-4.4M XLR which is a well made adapter that costs $9.99.

Non Audio stuff

The cable is exceptionally well constructed and made to last as it is very sturdy with high quality aluminum plugs and centrer splitter. The cable is a little heavy and kind of stiff but it doesn't get tangled. Microphonic noise is low to minimal and not annoying during music playback.

The 3.5mm connectors that plug on the headphone’s end are cylindrically shaped with a 9.4mm diameter. They are compatible with a wide range of headphones, like the FiiO FT3 & FT5, the Focal Clear Mg and various HIFIMAN models, like the Arya Stealth but may not fit some other models, like the HIFIMAN HE400SE. Before you buy the cable you should check your headphones reception plugs. Flat ones should be alright but if they have a hollow design, then you should measure the inner diameter and make sure that it fits.

Disclaimer

When it comes to cables, I am not a denier but also not a zealot. I do use aftermarket cables, I tend to trust my ears but I don't always hear audible differences no matter how good or expensive the cable is. There are a lot of parameters involved, placebo included (yes, it is an essential part of the hobby), so what you are going to read is a purely subjective evaluation without any scientific validation. There is no guarantee that you are going to reach the same conclusions if you test the same cable in your audio system.

Audio stuff

The FiiO LL-RD 2024 is a very transparent cable without a sound signature of its own and it will not affect the frequency response of your headphones. A bright headphone will still sound bright and a warm will remain warm. Not brighter and not warmer, just the same as you know it.

What the FiiO LL-RD 2024 does is to enhance clarity and definition while there is a strong benefit when it comes to overall resolution. The cable adds some extra refinement so the sound is perceived as smoother and less sharp, especially in the treble. There is an improvement to separation and layering, the soundstage gains in width and depth. Detail retrieval is better with this cable than most stock ones and the whole chain becomes more transparent and revealing, something that is to be considered if you don't want to make your system too unforgiving. Finally, I did also notice some audible improvements in bass dynamics, impact and layering.

(The FiiO LL-RD 2024 was compared with the stock cables of the Focal Clear Mg and HIFIMAN Arya Organic)

Conclusion

The FiiO LL-RD 2024 is a high quality cable that carries the sonic characteristics of pure silver at an affordable price. Well made and modular, it is a definite upgrade over most stock cables when it comes to build quality, aesthetics and ergonomics while there is a chance that it might become the icing on the cake in your quest to fine tune your audio system.

The review sample was kindly provided free of charge. The price of the FiiO LL-RD 2024 cable is $199 and you can buy it from here.

Before I begin this review, let me first thank FIIO for providing me this cable for review.
Rest assured, this review is 100% my own personal opinion.

Check the LL-RD 2024 here :

Build Quality

The LL-RD 2024 is a very well built cable, with some kind of nylon sheathing.
One thing I would like to point out is that the cable is kinda stiff and microphonics if somehow it got rubbed into your clothes.

The Cable is dual 3.5mm and is suitable for headphones such as the FIIO FT3, FT5, JT1, and lots of HiFiMAN stuff.

Though I tried the cable with my HE400se, the 3.5mm shell is too big for the HE400se.

Sound Impression
1719120713337.jpg
For the sound, I use FIIO JT1 headphones as the headphone and FIIO BTR15 and KB3 as the source, and JT1 stock cable as comparison.

FIIO states that there is some difference on BASS - MIDS - TREBLE with this cable, though I’m not sure what they’re comparing the RD 2024 with.
9061162.jpg
For me, I compare the RD-2024 cable with the stock cable of the JT1.

What I notice is that, with the RD-2024, the depth of the sound like the bass - lower mids is somewhat has more depth compared to stock JT1 cable.
As a result, it improves the overall imaging and holographic information of the JT1.

Not only that, the HIGHS also get more smoother BUT more resolving with a lot more micro layering on the sound.

Though I must say I did not find any significant tonal difference, for example, with RD-2024 cable the JT1 becomes super warm or super bright.

Conclusion

Is the LL-RD 2024 worth the asking price of $200USD?

MAYBE?

It's really up to you to decide, but for me, the difference in the JT1 listening experience is kind of justified the asking price.

With the stock JT1 cable, the JT1 sounds just OK-ish, but with the RD 2024, the imaging and resolving capabilities of JT1 is noticeably better, a lot better actually.

But if you’re in search for lets say wanting to get your headphone to be warm or bright, the RD-2024 might not be for you, because I don’t find any significant tonality different with the cable.

If you’re in the market for a $200USD cable, with very good build quality and modular with options for 3.5mm / 4.4mm cable and want to extract every last bit of your headphones technicality, then yes I can recommend the LL-RD 2024 cable to you.

Thanks for reaching this far.
