SPA-Hi End MAX

1000058714.jpg

Due to recent world events from this point forward in my reviews I will be stating the price of iems and other Chinese audio products in UK £ as the fluctuating tariffs make it difficult to give a guide on the price in US Dollars.

This review is going to be very familiar to the Silver Angel LTD Edition.

1000058737.jpg

The best way to describe it is imagine the The Hemsworth brothers the Silver Angel Ltd is Chris Hemsworth and the SPA-Hi End MAX is Liam Hemsworth from across the street they are pretty difficult to tell apart but they are definitely a Hemsworth.

So as TLDR the SPA-Hi End MAX is practically the same iem different suit.

The differences between these two from other brands could be considered unit variation.

Being a reviewer I try to give my subjective opinions on iems, in the hobby at the moment 95% of iems released at the moment are good a solid 4 stars in their price segment so the differences between great iems and good iems is all about the nuances. All reviews are based on a single point in time for the reviewer next week an iem can come along and make a mockery of your previous judgement.

The SPA-Hi End MAX is less of an artistic masterpiece the faceplate is the same but the body loses the Ltd Edition's unusual crinkle body design and goes with a mirror finish aviation grade aluminum shell. The iem is supremely comfortable with a sound signature that is incredibly natural with an emphasis on giving every detail of vocals with beautiful natural timbre and tone. The Dynamic driver is the same, so the same extremely high quality. The Silver Angel series of iems are all Dynamic Driver sets with the type of DD and the tuning being the differences between them. Like the Silver Angel LE the SPA-Hi End MAX perfect chill iem there's no sharp edges or irritating peaks. It's warm bass infused signature is smooth as butter.

When I started to really listen I was still just sd mesmerised by the depth of the mids from this as the flagship iem the details are all presented with a smoothness that is intoxicating the overall signature is designed to pull your focus to these mids not say that the bass and treble are lacking just that they are not the main focus. Being a Dynamic Driver, my favourite type of drivers they are really cohesive with no jarring transitions between frequency ranges

Which opens up the subject I've been ruminating about for quite a while. Are iems in the higher price margins acutally improving in sound quality my opinion is, not really. What is happening is though is the more refined sound signatures and the tuning expertise of the Kilobuck companies is filtering down to the midfi £200 to £400 iems. There's never been a better time to invest in an iem like the SPA-Hi End MAX which is half the price of the Ltd Edition and just stop and enjoy a dammed fine earphone that plays across most genres with effortless grace. Then maybe come back in a year or two to pick a new replacement.

In these days of two week life spans of iems where an iem is released hyped then forgotten about. I think this set of iems are going to be remembered as they offer a wonderfully balanced sound signature that is both dynamic and musical at an affordable price level that is not just the purview of the executive classes.

SPA-Hi End MAX is the not the flagship of the series of Silver Angel branded iems and its one stop from the top priced at £225 which I feel is even more competitive in its price range than the Ltd Edition and stands out from the crowd.

The beautiful all aluminium shell is very well built with the crystal faceplates exuding a premium appearance, as usual for me the included eartips did not fit my large ear canals so careful selection of eartips is needed to get a comfortable fit I settled on Divinis wide Velvet for a very comfortable fit with good seal so I could enjoy the sound they produce to its full effect.

I'd just like to say upfront I believe we are all biased when giving our subjective thoughts about IEMs and earbuds be it a particular type of signature that works with our music library or how they look and feel in our ears. On the subject of ears everyone's ear anatomy is different and this effects fit and seal which in turn effects the perception of bass response so I recommend finding the right ear tips or foams that suit your ears to get the best of any earphone.

My review star ratings are linked to the price range of the iem eg a 5 star review of a $100 iem is not equal to one of a $500 iem. I’m and audio enthusiast with a collection of over 200 iems, 30 different sources with a music collection that numbers over 100,000 tracks and 18 flathead buds I share my impressions as a way to share my enthusiasm for the hobby I approach from the premise of music first technology 2nd, what does this mean? For me the technicalities are not of prime importance but does the music move with this particular iem. I’m a connoisseur of many different sound signatures. The only prerequisite is musicality I’m not a fan of analytical cold playback. My scale of success when it comes to evaluating earphones is; do I get goosebumps when they playback my favourite tunes. There are many good earphones but do they give me goosebumps?

Unfortunately I have a draw full of just good earphones.I want the earphone that I reach for without thinking because I instinctively know it will bring the thrill I’m seeking from my music.

1000058731.jpg

The SPA-Hi End MAX not a bass head sound signature they have a slightly boosted bass that is commanding with good texture and excellent technicalities a very natural presentation while being free of any unnatural tone, timbre or unnatural colouration, the bass is not boomy, it digs deep in the subbass region while also supplying enough mid bass slam with great texture and detail making drums, electronic bass instruments exciting and engaging. I'm a closet Basshead and I was extremely satisfied with the forceful bass provided,

The Bass is not to the detriment of the mids or treble regions. There's a lovely snap and clarity to leading notes across the frequency range with natural decay to draw you into the music. The mids have a glorious depth in playback making male and female vocals really organic and analogue in presentation there is no thinness rather a warm clarity that enhances the overall enjoyment.

Now I know there are those who don’t believe in burn in of earphones, all I’m going to say is, I burn in all my earphones the SPA-Hi End MAX response tightened and the treble smoothed out at the 50 hour mark I didn’t hear any shift in the signature from there on.

Make sure to research any earphone before you buy!

What do they sound like? As I mentioned above they are a vocal lovers signature that are so well balanced, they played well with pretty much any genre I've listened to with them

The bass is boosted present with enough sub bass to dig deep for bass driven tracks and midbass to give that extra bit of slam. The included cable a good quailty cable, i personally find it a bit thin for my tastes and replaced it with the a Xhins 8w Dark/Bright copper cable which adds more wow to the staging and opens up the treble revealing the details and air.The bass is meaty and dynamic, the quality of that bass is superb full of details and texture.

Bass there's a noticeable boosting in quantity but there's enough air to balance out the signature. The differences to the LTD Edition are very small there's a tiny nuance of less treble the bass is in my opinion the same.

The mids are warm, clean with a very smooth transition from the bass, there is a very pleasing body to males vocals the timbre is the most natural I've experienced. Male vocals sound really good, very smooth with good air. Female vocals sound amazing, pure soaring with no edge or sibilance just sweet and rounded.

Treble is slightley rolled off with no jagged edges smooth and well rounded. Cymbals sound natural with good decay, guitars are detailed with every resonance clear and sweet. A perfect iem for Yacht Rock, Classic Rock, Blues, jazz and acoustic music. Acoustic guitars sound just wonderful with beautiful transients that decay with perfection.

The timbre and tactility of drums, strings, guitars and brass instruments is very natural all instruments find their own place. Vocals both male and female are reproduced authentically with emotion, every inflection captured , The SPA-Hi End MAX is quite forgiving of poorly produced music.

When I'm evaluating iems I have a play list of roughly 100 songs of mixed genres. With SPA-Hi End MAX I was analysing the different frequency ranges listening to albums in their entirety. I found they I worked across all the genres in my library always full bodied. smooth and detailed . They really excelled with Shawn Mullins, The White Buffalo, Led Zepplin, Rod Stewart, Lorde, Hozier, Journey, Foreigner.

Some of the music Selections I evaluated the SPA-Hi End MAX with

Shawn Mullins - Apocalyptic Blues
This track really shows what a well tuned Bass with clean mids and treble gives you with this tune with its analogue instruments inc guitars drums, bass and Salvation Army band , the staging really shines with intricate layering and superb depth you can picture the position of every instrument and shawn's voice in your minds eye giving an holographic out of head experience this iem is just perfect for this track.

Led Zeppelin - Since i've been loving you
The ultimate slow burning power blues song with its live in the studio production is rendered to perfection from Bonham's iconic drum sound (squeaky drum pedal included) to Plant's sublime vocals dripping with emotion and Page's arguably finest guitar solo. Presented with a special sauce that gave me goosebumps.

Marc Coen and the blind boys of Alabama – Silver Thunder Bird , this multi-layered live vocal is a classic with moody piano intro and fabulous vocals reproduced with weight to draw you in giving emphasis to the slowly building vocal acrobatics of the Blind boys of Alabama. The staging is also brilliantly reproduced, increasing the atmospherics greatly. The Silver Angel LE works incredibly well with live recordings seemingly adding extra atmospherics putting you front and centre in a room with the artist never sounding thin just rich and expansive.

White Buffalo - The Woods -this is one starts with a lush strings with Jake Smiths rich baritone vocals and slowly builds with new instruments being introduced as this slow ballad builds Jake's authoritative vocals stays front and centre with great depth, as the song becomes a multi-layered wall of sound the Silver Angel Lr keeps the big production in control avoiding any congestion, with every nuance present and correct, impressive.

BROTHERS OSBOURNE – Slow your roll
The sound of waves lapping at the beach shoreline before the exquisite instrumentation starts was so realistic I swear I could smell the salty sea air. The rich baritone vocals are so real I felt the singers breath in my ear with the superb layering of instruments giving them space to linger in the air. I think you've got the idea I love this iem.

The SPA-Hi End MAX is reasonably easy to drive iem I had no issues using them with my , Daps, Dongles in getting loud enough, the dynamics and open sound was present with all sources the texture and layering they are capable of was available for all to some degree. They sounded good with all sources. This is an iem that doesn’t necessarily need a powerful source but it does scale impressively with the bass getting tighter with even more details and texture.

I'm not a fan of analytical sounding IEMs/earphones that force details into your ears like a photograph with HDR and sharpening set at max a decidedly digital representation. I'm more Vinyl on a turntable, Leica manual focus, sumptuous colours on kodak colour gold film, kinda guy, where if you look really close all the details are there but it's the whole image you appreciate rather than just how sharp it is. The quality overall sound signature of the SPA-Hi End MAX is exciting with sub bass bass slam snappy midbass really sublime open natural mids and a smooth safe treble to make a sound signature that I appreciate and really enjoy.

When using my different sources I did favour the more powerful ones the extra dynamics and layering and technical presentation was more apparent but the overall musical presentation was the same.

Cable rolling
I'm a cable believer but if you are not then skip this bit.

While the SPA-Hi End MAX comes with a great quality 3.5mm cable which really is good enough I personally prefer a thicker cable with 4.4mm termination and non recessed 2pin connections so used the Xhins 8W dark/Bright copper cable.
There was a slight increase in the staging and depth using this cable. I will say this differences was minor and many people would probably be completely satisfied with the stock cable on this occasion.

Comparisons

I've already mentioned that the LTD edition is a twin.
Like the Silver Angel LTD Edition I compared it to the IKKO OH5 ASGARD.

320ac0dc-d91c-422d-8bf5-a528aab6435f-1_all_2864.jpg

Ikko OH5 ASGARD

A single Dynamic Driver iem that also has beautiful mids with an emphasis on natural vocals this iem is one of my favourite DD iems and until now was my first choice for vocal focused music. The SPA-Hi End MAX has a similar bass sound but when it comes to the mids it smokes the OH5 with far more depth and more accurate layering wringing every once of atmospherics and emotion out of the vocals and especially acoustic guitars. The OH5 however does have a more extended treble in comparison to the "safe" treble tuning of SPA-Hi End MAX .

1000058707.jpg
1000058701.jpg

1000058735.jpg

Conclusion

What a revelation the SPA-Hi End MAX are I literally used then for 8 hours and more without any fatigue absolutely enraptured by the musicality my music has never sounded so inviting, with my eyes closed I would have sworn I was in the room with the musicians.

Compared to its sibling and others at its price range or quite frankly at any price in my opinion they are easily front runners. I can not recommend the SPA-Hi End MAX enough. Simply put, buy and enjoy

EARACOUSTIC SPA HIEND - A GLAMOROUS STATEMENT
Pros: Vocals have the right weight and sound very natural
Controlled mid bass
Treble is safe enough for sensitive ears
Airy nuance in the overall sound presentation
Flashy design that looks like jewelry (Might be a con if you dislike flashy things, but for me it’s a BIG YES)
Technical performance is good for a single DD
Beautiful box and accessories presentation
Very easy to drive
Cons: Lacks sub-bass, so the atmospheric impression is weak in certain songs
For a single DD, the housing is bulky. Very bulky.
Electric guitars feel like they lack bite in aggressive genres like metal
Cymbals sometimes sound splashy in certain songs

EarAcoustics Audio, never heard of it? But what if I told you this brand used to be known as The Fragrant Zither, or TFZ for short?
For audiophiles who’ve been in the hobby for at least 2 years, it’s nearly impossible not to have heard of TFZ, once famous for its basshead IEMs. It looks like they’re now seriously re-entering the fierce Chi-fi competition.

This IEM was reviewed using the stock cable and Spinfit CP360 eartips, size S, for deep fit.

The box looks like a jewelry box, like seriously. Unboxing this IEM feels premium from every angle I look at it. The included accessories also look beautiful and elegant.
The cable provided is a 2-braided LITZ Coaxial Bundle of OFC and SPC, definitely ain't playing here.

Box contents:

  • 1x EarAcoustics SPA Hiend IEM
  • 1x SPC OFC Coaxial 2-braided cable
  • 1x set of small bore eartips
  • 1x set of wide bore eartips
  • 1x SPA leather case
  • 1x documentation
Truly well made, feels genuinely premium.

The SPA Hiend features a single 11.4mm DD with Titanium Gold Ball top + Silicon Edge Double-Sided Composite and Double Chamber Surrounding Unit.
To dumb it down, a 11.4mm single DD with dual magnets, designed to produce natural sound with superb resolution.

With 111dB sensitivity and 23 ohms impedance, this IEM is fairly easy to drive, even with a regular smartphone. I usually listen using a laptop directly and it’s sufficiently loud at moderately high SPL.

Plugging it into the Hidizs ST2 Pro cable (70mW + 70mW power) already gets too loud at volume 20/100.
There’s a huge difference between direct laptop output and using a DAC, note definition becomes much clearer and more contrasted. So while it’s easy to drive, it scales very well.

20250420_103254.jpg

The fit is similar to typical resin IEMs. For a single DD, it’s considered VERY bulky.
Very ergonomic, it fits snugly in the ear for long sessions without causing discomfort.

BASS

The bass isn’t too large, but also not too small.
Sufficient for those who crave some bass slam here and there.

It leans more toward mid bass with minimal rumble, providing impactful "thump" without feeling slow. In drum-heavy tracks like Through The Fire And Flames, it’s incredibly satisfying, with drum hits felt right in the eardrum, no lag or struggle to catch up with those fiery drum kicks.

Mid bass feels separated from lower midrange frequencies, which avoids sounding bloated or muffled, very enjoyable and surprisingly one of the best bass performance regarding mid bass focused IEM.

I personally love this kind of bass. Many IEMs with raised mid bass tend to sound bloated in complex tracks like heavy metal or orchestral music, but I didn’t experience that here.

MIDRANGE

Continuing from the bass, the lower midrange is relatively full, no thinness, adding slight coloration to the presentation.
Slightly fuller than the Tanchjim Oxygen, especially compared to the Tanchjim Origin.

“Lush” best describes this IEM, it delivers sweet, inoffensive vocal weight. With wide bore eartips, vocals become even sweeter and almost vocal-centric, standing prominently on stage.

Deep male vocals like Josh Groban’s won’t lack its majestic here. Aggressive vocals like the late Chester Bennington of Linkin Park retain their rasp and power.

For female vocals, this IEM leans more toward mature-sounding voices like Utada Hikaru’s warm tone. Cutesy Anisong vocals don’t quite hit the sweet spot for me due to the thicker presentation.
However, with wide bore eartips, those same vocals become more enjoyable and never shouty.
Looks like I’ll be tip-rolling quite often with this one.

In some tracks, I do hear a bit of sibilance, but it’s not bothersome. Then again, I’m very sensitive to sibilance and peaky frequencies, so your mileage may vary.

TREBLE

Moving to treble, this IEM is relatively safe for the ears. If you're after clarity and brilliance, the Tanchjim Origin outperforms SPA Hiend here.

Treble is extended but not too sparkly. This is actually my preferred type of treble, though in some songs it lacks that crispy bite or "zing."

Cymbals sound different depending on the source. Plugged into a laptop directly, they sound a bit splashy and unnatural, but that could be the laptop's weak DAC.
There’s a strong sense of airiness in the presentation, it all feels wide and spacious.

20250420_102521.jpg

T E C H N I C A L I T I E S

SOUNDSTAGE

Soundstage is decently good, width and height are balanced, though depth is a bit lacking.

It’s like watching a concert in a large hall with tall ceilings while sitting in the front row. The vocals don’t feel too distant.

Lots of reverb and echo are present when listening, so it gives a grand concert-like impression.

IMAGING AND LAYERING

Left-right imaging is honestly pretty good, though I wouldn’t say pinpoint.
Meaning? The direction of sound isn’t focused enough to call it precisely pinpoint-accurate.
Then again, I’ve yet to find any IEM in this price range that offers true pinpoint accuracy.

Front-back layering is not bad either, you can tell when sounds are projected behind instruments.

In short: good for the price!

TIMBRE

As someone picky about timbre, I give this IEM high marks. Vocals and instruments sound natural and don’t disrupt my personal enjoyment.
Sometimes I have to tolerate those IEM that have this weird sounding timbre, and I find none here.

However, if I'm being super nitpick here, is in the cymbals, sometimes too splashy and unnatural with weak DAC.

20250420_103027.jpg

S Y N E R G Y

I believe the SPA Hiend benefits from tip rolling. With small bore tips like CP360, the sound is relatively warmer and more focused.
With wide bore tips like Springtips, vocals become more forward and nearly vocal-centric as bass gets reduced.
But my go-to eartips for this IEM would be Dunu S&S Eartips for those extra depth it can gives to the overall presentation.

Regarding the sources,
compared to the KAEI Design TAP2 DACs with dual CS43198, there’s a clear improvement, no splashiness in cymbals, much more natural.
Using the Hidizs ST2 Pro cable with ESS9281AC Pro DAC, cymbals sound drier, like the tail of the sound ends too quickly.

I think the SPA Hiend pairs best with a neutral source like the CS43198 DAC.
With tubes, it becomes too warm for me personally, but with ESS it loses that “delushiousness” factor in vocals and treble.

C O M P A R I S O N

VS. Tanchjim Oxygen
A single DD review wouldn’t be complete without a head-to-head with THE Oxygen.
The Oxygen in reference is one with noticeable bass, likely a newer batch.

Oxygen focuses on sub-bass, while SPA Hiend focuses on midbass. This makes Oxygen sound cleaner, but SPA Hiend has a fuller timbre, even bordering on analog-like at times, closer to lifelike.
Oxygen has slightly wider soundstage and similar detail retrieval.

VS. Tanchjim Origin
Like its sibling, Origin also focuses on sub-bass, giving a cleaner presentation.
It has better clarity than SPA Hiend, but in terms of vocal weight and timbre?
SPA Hiend sounds much more natural and realistic. Origin can be too thin at times.
Origin is sparklier, while SPA Hiend is safer. But when it comes to tracks with bass kicks? SPA Hiend is more enjoyable due to its impactful midbass.

The EarAcoustics SPA Hiend, an IEM I’d never heard of before, is actually suitable for almost all genres, except aggressive ones like Death Metal.

For me personally, an IEM with tuning this mature is absolutely worth trying, especially if you share my preferences. And honestly, I love the shell design, it looks so luxurious.

Now I’m curious about the differences in shell materials used in the Hiend Max and Hiend Ultra models, especially the Limited Edition. Ehe.

EarAcoustics SPA High End Max's Review - Tasteful V Shape
Pros: Solid build quality
Nicely tuned V shaped sound signature
Natural timbre
Energetic but not harsh treble
Cons: Fingerprint magnet
No modular cable
The treble presentation might not be for some people (personal preference)

General/Packaging/Build/Comfort
For those who are not aware, EarAcoustics is a rebrand/sub brand of TFZ that was quite popular back then. The SPA and STA series is their comeback and there are a lot of variants in the two series. The model that i have with me today is the SPA High End Max, from what i gathered, this model is aluminium hence the build quality is very solid. The cheaper variant is resin shell if I am not mistaken,in terms of tuning, I am not sure because I only have one unit with me for this review. The packaging of SPA High End Max is no slouch when it comes to the presentation and packaging, within the box, it consists of a very high quality cable, sadly it is non modular and only available in 3.5mm termination, standard eartips as well as the tuning nozzles. The shell is all metal and the unit feels very solid, as with most mirror finish IEM, the SPA High End Max is prone to fingerprints and micro scratches as well. The configuration is a 1DD. In terms of comfort, I have no issues wearing the unit for long sessions (2-3 hours).

Foreword
My review is solely based on what I hear via my equipment and I never consider my reviews to be objective in any way rather a subjective approach. Do take into consideration that everyone’s ear anatomy is not the same, so the psychoacoustics perception might be different as well, but i believe it will not stray too far

Sound Impression
The overall tuning is leaning towards V shaped with quite a bit of energy on the top end but not to the point where it is harsh. It doesn’t sound dry nor lean. There’s also a slight mid bass emphasis to add the slight warmth or thickness to the overall frequency. Nothing to fault in terms of timbre, very natural sounding overall. It does reminds me a little bit of analogue speaker kind of sound signature with a mid bass boost and some rumble on the sub bass

Bass
  • The bass is definitely the strength of this IEM, not the highest quality bass in terms of control and quantity, but it does offers a bunch of fun
  • Sub bass does rumble when the track calls for it, but I wouldn't say it is anywhere near bass head territory
  • The transition from sub bass to mid bass is quite linear
  • It has very good texture in my opinion, mid bass on the other hand is very punchy, very very nice when you are listening to Eminem’s track or any other hip hop tracks
  • The amount of bass is good enough for my library and tip rolling can help to slightly boost the bass as well, or alternatively iFi HipDac 3’s Xbass does work as well if you want more
Mids
  • Timbre sounds correct to me and the midrange does have sufficient details, there is a slight hint of bass bleed into this region
  • Vocal doesn’t sound that recessed for a v shaped sound profile, which is quite a surprise to me, both male and female vocal has good texture to it,doesn’t sound thin at all
  • In general,i find that the mids are relatively smooth from the lower mids, upper mids do have a bit of energy but not overly boosted, but then again, this ultimately boils down to personal tolerance and preference
Treble
  • The treble is energetic but not to the point where it is harsh, out of the box, i would say the treble is really harsh (for me) but it does get smoother after burning them in, it is much more tolerable compared to the unit when it is freshly unboxed
  • The SPA High End Max also have a good amount of air that contributes the expansive soundstage
  • Detail retrieval is very good for its class, very detailed yet it doesn’t sound clinical and overly analytical
Soundstage/Imaging
  • SPA High End Max has very good and expansive soundstage, good width and height perception as well as the depth, slightly out of the head kind of perception
  • Imaging is good, the instruments can be pinpointed easily but it does lack a little finesse when the track gets overly busy, generally it does well

Driveability
  • SPA High End Max is relatively easy to drive, but it does scale with amplification, in terms of bass control and dynamics, personally, i prefer pairing it with a neutral or slightly warm source to tame the highs for a more balanced and musical presentation
Comparison (Dunu Falcon Ultra)
  • Falcon Ultra is a single DD with swappable nozzle
  • The overall tonality of Falcon Ultra is slightly warmer due to a more relaxed treble presentation
  • Depending on the nozzle, blue nozzle offers the most analytical presentation but on certain track and after a long listening session, it might be a little fatiguing as the uppers mids and treble can be too much for some
  • Gold nozzle on the other hand smoothen things out, a safer upper mids as well as a more relaxed treble
  • Bass presentation on the Falcon Ultra is speedy, it doesn’t have that kind of decay from SPA High End Max which offers a little bit more fun
  • Both SPA High End Max and Falcon Ultra are fingerprint magnet
Final Thoughts
The past two weeks that i have been using the SPA High End Max on a daily basis for the purpose of this review, i personally find that they are not an all rounder, it does well on certain genre and also perform badly on a certain genre, given the nature of the tuning, that is to be expected. The SPA High End Max does convey alot of fun during my listening session and it does remind me of some sound signature from vintage speakers. It is not class leading in terms of technicalities but the trade off is that the overall signature is fun and engaging. Overall, a 4 star from me. Recommended!

DISCLAIMER
The review I'm about to share reflects my personal experience and provides an honest evaluation regarding this set. I am completely unaffiliated from the brands I review. I did not receive (or will receive) any financial or monetary incentives in exchange for writing this review, I wrote this review of my own free will and all of the opinions you'll read are my own.

This unit was provided by EarAcoustic Audio for free in exchange for an honest and detailed review. Rest assured, this does not affect my opinions about this set. Thank you, EarAcoustic Audio, for your continuous support!

INTRODUCTION
Late last month, EarAcoustic Audio sent some IEMs for review. Even though there were a lot of pending reviews when these came, I literally included these on my daily rotation ever since it came along with the IEMs I was reviewing, these basically let my all-time favorites/daily beater sets rest for a while because of how interesting the EarAcoustic IEMs are.

To be completely honest, the first thing that caught my attention were their designs, and my initial thoughts were “is this another Chi-fi brand that focuses more on their looks than their sound quality?”. After a few weeks of use, I came to the conclusion that the EarAcoustic Audio, specifically the SPA Hi End, sounds as good as it looks. I really think that EarAcoustic deserves the traction they are gaining recently.

Here are the gears I used for the past couple of weeks to review the EarAcoustic Audio SPA Hi End:

Eartips: Tangzu Sancai
Cable: Stock cable
DAC/Dongle: Shanling H5, and iBasso DC07 Pro
Phone/Device: Either my iPhone XR or my laptop
Music Player: Spotify, and Apple Music

PACKAGING
The presentation and packaging of the SPA Hi End feels and looks somewhat premium. The box, and how the IEMs and inclusions are presented are straightforward and not that unique but the smaller details feel very intentional. Inside the box, besides the IEM, EarAcoustic Audio included two sets of eartips with different sizes, one set is wide bore and slightly shorter and the other set is your standard eartips. The texture of the eartips leans more on the smoother side so it goes inside your ears smoothly, it is also soft and not hard so it really feels relatively comfortable for a standard eartip. There is also what seems to be a carrying case built with leather included with a silver color that is quite durable and thick and can be a safe storage of your IEMs during transport. The insides of this case is built with a soft and smooth fabric/material so you definitely don’t need to worry about scratching the shells of the IEMs.

I actually posted an unboxing video for this on my facebook account, you can check it using this link.

BUILD QUALITY, DESIGN, AND COMFORT
Build quality wise, the SPA Hi End definitely feels well-built. The shells are light but feel very durable. The included cable feels very durable too because of its thickness, but it is slightly on the stiffer side and can form some memory, but another good thing about the cable is that there are no annoying microphonics. The design of the shell is semi-custom, so it has grooves and fins which can either be super comfortable or very uncomfortable depending on your ear anatomy. Shell shapes like this are usually a hit or miss, but I personally haven’t heard anyone complain about semi-custom shaped IEMs. For me? The SPA Hi End feels very comfortable and fits perfectly on my ears even though my ears are very small.

Now let’s talk about this IEM’s downside regarding the design and build. On each shell, you will see a huge vent on the back part, but for some reason, I still encounter driver flex. There is little to no pressure on my ears when I am wearing these, but there really is a driver flex that can be heard every time you insert the IEMs. It doesn’t affect the acoustics and tonality of the IEMs but it is definitely annoying. So what I did was I tip rolled and found that the Tangzu Sancai gave me the best seal while avoiding the driver flex, but do note that your experience may vary.

SOUND IMPRESSIONS
The SPA Hi End’s tuning is mild v-shape but with added brightness and details. Honestly, this IEM’s tuning reminded me of the usual Simgot tuning but is slightly more refined overall that I would describe it as something that sounds more “premium”. The looks and design of this IEM perfectly describes its tuning: bright, shiny, and beautiful. It was as if EarAcoustic audio took the good things about a Planar driver (specifically detail retrieval and treble presentation) and somewhat made it work for a single Dynamic Driver IEM.

Bass
The SPA Hi End’s bass is noticeably laid back but is still present. Mid-bass punch is not very powerful but sounds whole because of the amount of the sub-bass. Some might feel the need for more bass punch, but the good thing with this set’s bass is it sounds rather clean and very well-controlled but not recessed nor too safe sounding. This set’s bass texture and sub-bass rumble achieved the balance between details and smoothness, offering a bit of both. With how the bass region in SPA Hi End is presented, it is definitely not tuned to take the spotlight but rather support and complement the other regions.

Mids
The mid-range of this IEM has warmth and is colored but no bass bleeds are present, it sounds more musical than clean. The transition from lower-mids towards the upper-mids has a slight dip which makes vocal separation really good. Upper-mids is forward and can be slightly aggressive at times, but is definitely not sibilant. Forward upper-mids added by the hint of warmth on the lower-mids makes the vocals forward, separated, and have a more natural timbre. Overall, the mid-range of this IEM sounds musical but maintains a good level of separation and details, the warm character of this set’s lower-mid range doesn’t mask any kind of details.

Treble
Treble has a spicy character but opens a lot of details and gives a lot of treble energy and shimmer, that’s why I described this IEM as something that is shiny and bright, it really gives off that impression. At high volumes, this treble energy might be too much for some, especially for treble sensitive folks, but for me? It feels just right (I love my treble bright lol). The upper frequencies aren't that well extended but are well-textured and won’t come off as very dry. Treble attack is fast and tactile, with slightly aggressive transients. One downside though, treble is not that airy. But still, despite its downside, this set’s treble for me is its strongest point and is the reason why this IEM sounds good.

Details, Imaging, and Soundstage
The SPA Hi End sounds very detailed and resolving, the amount of details you’ll get on each track sounds satisfying. Separation and layering is really good too, you can almost hear no smearing on busy and very energetic songs which also adds to how resolving this IEM is. Imaging is good but on the other hand, when it comes to the soundstage, it doesn’t feel as great. Soundstage width is decent, but height and depth sounds slightly cramped so it sounds more spacious horizontally than vertically.

IMG_5255.jpeg

CONCLUSION
The EarAcoustic Audio SPA Hi End is definitely more than its pretty faceplate and premium design; treble and detail lovers will definitely love this one. The SPA Hi End’s brightness feels tuned very intentionally in a way that presents a distinct character which is different from other spicy sets I have heard. I have heard other one Dynamic Driver sets that are bright and detailed, but sounds so unrefined. But the SPA Hi End? Far from it.
