    Introduction

Again, I'm going to check out another BGVP product. This time they are low cost IEMs, under $30. This is the SGZ-DN1S model, hybrid IEMS, with two drivers per capsule, an 8mm DD and a BA made by the brand itself. The dynamic driver has a biological diaphragm, dedicated to the lower zone. While the driver balanced armature 30019, is responsible for the medium and high zone. Both are connected to a crossover, which uses physical capacitors, so that the convergence between both drivers is smoother and more natural. The capsules have an MMCX connection. The cable is made of 32 copper wires, free of oxygen; in addition, it has a microphone.

    Packaging

The SGZ-DN1S come in a small square white box, 83x83x38mm. On the upper side, in the middle, the capsules are drawn. In the upper left part, the mark is written and below the model. On the back side are the specifications and the address of the headquarters of the brand. After removing the lid, you can see the capsules embedded in a rigid foam mold. Under it, you will find the rest of the accessories:

    • The MMCX cable, with microphone and plastic cap for the 3.5mm connector
    • Three pairs of tips in translucent white silicone, sizes SxMxL.
    • Three pairs of black silicone tips, sizes SxMxL, with a wider inner channel. The medium tips of this set are placed in the capsules.
    • A clothing clip
    • Warranty certificate.

The presentation is very basic, in a small and rigid box, very compact. The content is the minimum required, at least two different sets of silicone tips come. A carrying case is missing.

    Construction and Design

The capsules are made of translucent PVC, with injected Kevlar fibers, which gives an idea of a rigid and durable construction. Thanks to this material, they are very light. The outer face is translucent black, with shiny golden mini particles. The body is blue, also translucent and also possesses these mini shiny particles. The shape of the outer face is semi-circular, but modified to fit the ears more efficiently. The body is chubby and also very ergonomic. There are three holes near the base of the nozzles. These nozzles are made of plastic of the same colour and have metal grids. The MMCX connections are embedded in the body of the capsules and are gold plated. On the vertices of the outer face of the capsules, the model is written in small white letters. These letters are easily erased after finger manipulation after several weeks of use.

The black wire is constructed with 32 oxygen-free copper wires. The 4 strands are braided and covered with a transparent plastic tube. This coating is somewhat rigid and tends to take shape. It has no shape on the ear. This, together with the rigidity of the cable, makes its fit not very stable. The connector sleeves are two black plastic cones. The divider is a black metal cylinder, with an incision in the shape of a ring, which allows the grey material inside to be seen. The cover of the 3.5mm jack connector is the same. This connector is gold-plated and has a translucent plastic cap that protects it. The cable has a microphone with a multifunction button.

The construction of the capsules is characterized by the lightness and beauty of their design. Despite the low weight, there is no weakness in them, and the use of kevlar, ensures greater durability. Only the cable is below the level, basically because of its rigidity and tendency to take shape.

You can choose in three colors, black, blue and a combination of black and blue (this is the model I'm reviewing). There is no cable without microphone option.

    Adjustment and Ergonomics

The adjustment of the cable, is on ear, but the rigidity of the same one, makes difficult the stability in that position. To solve it, you can use the clothes clip and thus, hold the cable so that it does not move. Or you can also use silicone hooks, accessories that are not included.

However, the capsules are very comfortable and their fit is very soft inside the ear shells. The length of the nozzles is very adequate and the insertion can be superficial or medium. The only drawback is that the direction of the nozzles is not very suitable for the use of tri-flange tips, as the angle is a little more open. But with silicone tips there is no adjustment problem.

Once fitted they do not move, are firmly attached and the rubbing with the ear is light and pleasant, without discomfort, even in long periods.

    Sound

    Profile

The BGVP SGZ-DN1S have a profile midway between the U and V, with a good dose of warmth and a point of darkness. The sub-bass zone has presence, but it is the mid-low range that stands out. The central zone feels backward, while the high zone flashes but without predominantly affecting the sound, as bass does.

    Bass

The lower zone is the strong point of the SGZ-DN1S, bordering on the consideration of IEMS suitable for Bass-Heads. At their deepest point, they are firm, but not too incisive. Then, they rise quickly, to stand out in the central zone of the low range. This characteristic polarizes the sound of these IEMS, giving rise to that mixture of U and V profile. It is undeniable the energy that this range possesses, but without renouncing to a good control, in addition to speed. The bass is collected quite efficiently, causing a clean sound, which does not cloudy the mids, or interfere too much in them. In this sense, the fast drop in gain towards the middle zone, contributes to create this sensation of low zone forceful, but safe, friendly character with the rest of frequencies, more classic U profiles well executed.

The texture, given the speed, is appreciated with softness, it is neither rough nor cloudy. The hit enjoys a good degree of dryness, is tight and consistent, with a good level of punch and strength. The detail, on the other hand, is not too big. The execution is good, the lamination and the layers are also quite acceptable, very in accordance with their level.

    BGVP SGZ-DN1S 12_resize.jpg

    Mids

The mid-zone is certainly far away, although this sensation is perceived more in the instrumentation than in the voices. While the upper midranges enjoy greater emphasis, the central zone feels more backward. The female voices and the higher instruments stand out from the rest of a range that is clean, somewhat dark, with a feeling of hollowness and distance accentuated in the middle. Even so, the texture remains soft and pleasant, with a warm timbre, somewhat dry, not too exciting, nor especially vivid, but with a more than acceptable dynamic. On this occasion, for this range, the profile is clearly U-shaped, as it better reflects the distance between the two extremes.

    BGVP SGZ-DN1S 13_resize.jpg

    Treble

The highs continue to confirm the hybrid profile, between V and U, as they are perceived to be dual. At the beginning they feel emphasized, continuing the wake of the high mids. It is a sensation of vivid clarity, painless, not sharp, but has a moderately crunchy appreciation, which brings salt and pepper, in this initial phase of trebles. The existing clear containment is perceived thanks to the narrowness of this initial range, which softens any negative sensation, such as wheezing. The duality is perceived something higher up, an accentuated zone, that manifests the profile in U, extending the trebles, to contribute harmonics, details and a pinch of air. But it is true that this duality sometimes denatures the perception of the upper zone, feeling irregular in certain songs, offering a duller look, depending on the tone of each of them.

    Soundstage, Separation

The SGZ-DN1S have a scene with good depth, supported in its low zone and in the sensation away from the mids. In this sense, these characteristics play in favor, at the time of obtaining a more airy and wide stage, although more frontal, than enveloping. The height is similar to the depth and helps the sound not feel congested. In addition, there is a good sense of clarity and separation, thanks to the goodness of the high area, which also provide a good dose of micro detail.

    Comparisons

    PaiAudio DR2

The DR2 are IEMs with a more pronounced V-profile, whose bass are more emphasized, especially the sub-bass zone. It also has a mid-high zone notably more present. The sound is closer, despite the recessed central zone. SGZ-DN1S are perceived to be more balanced, without such a thunderous low zone, but quite enjoyable. In addition, their profile is more friendly, since the DR2 deliver a greater amount of energy that, comparatively speaking, can get to fatigue the listener in the medium, long term. DR2s are clearly brighter, but also more aggressive. Low-middle and male voices offer a similar sense of remoteness in both IEMs. What contrasts is the difference in the upper mids, as well as the power of the lower zone that DR2 possess. In contrast, the SGZ-DN1S are softer, but also darker, although much calmer and more relaxed.

At scene level, the SGZ-DN1S are slightly wider, while the rest of the sound is larger in the DR2. There is also more separation, thanks to the greater degree of clarity in the midrange.

Although both models are comfortable, I prefer the ergonomics of the DR2, even though they are clearly heavier than the SGZ-DN1S.

In conclusion, both IEMS are like morning (DR2) and afternoon (SGZ-DN1S). Some are light and dynamic, while others are darker, sweeter and softer.

    BQEYZ K1

Both IEMS start from a very similar low zone, where the change is clearly appreciated, in the relation with the rest of frequencies. The K1 is a more balanced headphone, with a profile closer to a more traditional taste, with a nearer central zone, a high initial zone full of clarity and softer highs. BGVPs offer a more U-profile, as opposed to the light V-profile of K1s. In this way, the SGZ-DN1S offer a more daring sound, as opposed to the safety of the BQEYZ.

The K1 do not have the darkness of the SGZ-DN1S, but their highs are more limited, offering a smoother sound in that aspect, more congested, without as much spark or detail from above, as offered by the BGVP. In the mid zone, the K1 demonstrate greater cohesion with their lower zone, bringing more life, movement and amount of information, where the SGZ-DN1S are only softer, more distant and relaxed, also less descriptive.

At scene level, both IEMs share many similarities, also in separation. The SGZ-DN1S are wider, but the K1 are rounder, semicircular, with more three-dimensionality.

Comfort is very similar, but SGZ-DN1S are more rounded and lighter, achieving greater smoothness in the ears.

    BGVP SGZ-DN1S 16_resize.jpg

    Conclusion

The BGVP SGZ-DN1S are a comfortable, economical and quality alternative in a segment with a large number of models approaching the Harman IEM Target. Its profile, a mixture of U and V, is bold and diverse. It is grounded in a large low area and in a peculiar, but distinctive high area. The result is a different counterpoint, a set that offers a warm, relaxed, sweet, soft sound, with good level of detail, remarkable width and separation. Ideal for tasting at sunset.
