Upgrading to HD580 - Amp worth investment?
I just ordered a Senn HD580 and I am concerned about the nessecity to amp it. I've been looking at the Pocket Amp 2, and I can't tell whether it is a good match or not. Will even getting an amp like this increase my listening experience. I don't have much of an amp budget over $80. My other...- uosux

Setting a Goal - Best Headphone/Amp/Source for ~$600
While I'm doing well with my current set up (Zen Xtra, Grado SR80s, Shure E2Cs), I'm planning on working towards something a bit more "substantial". I want to start off a nice home listening set-up, but don't have an unlimited budget. I am thinking along the lines of $600, which would be $200...- uosux

What makes a genre appealing?
Recently I've been trying to diversify my musical tastes as much as possible. As you can expect, listening to something very different then what you normally hear can be a confusing experience. Instead of writing off any music I don't understand as "crap", I am assuming there is something I am... -
EAC Trouble
My EAC, which has worked fine for me before, no longer detects CDs. It simply doesn't register that a CD is present in the drive. The computer and other programs detect it fine, but not EAC. Has anyone run into this before?- uosux

DVD/RW Trouble
I have a NEC 2500a DVD burner, and everything has been working fine on it untill today. For whatever reason, it is not detected anymore. After investigating, I find that "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)". I have...- uosux

Best Value Heatsink?
Hopefully my new computer should be getting here in the next week or so, and I was looking into overclocking. What would be a good, yet not to expensive heatsink to use on my Athlon XP 2500+ Barton? I was looking at the Thermaltake Extreme Volcano 12. It looks like I can find it for around $30...- uosux

Buying a new PC; Help needed.
I am going to be buying a new computer for college this fall, but I am awash in a sea of choices, with little to ground myself on. My primary interest is in gaming, with compatibility for the new games such as Half-Life 2, and Doom 3. I know I'll mostly need a graphics card that is up to it...- uosux

Anyone seen "Napoleon Dynamite"?
I just saw this movie this evening, and I thought it was fantastic. It is an independent film, so I was lucky that it was showing at the movie theater where I work (They usually show only big budget pictures). I hadn't heard of this movie, but I highly recomend it. The focus is on the life of...- uosux

AP Tests
I suppose this thread is mostly for highschoolers, or people who have graduated not too long ago. Does anybody take AP classes at school? If so, which ones, and how do you think you did on the tests? This year I took two: Britsh Literature, and Psychology (dropped Biology at semester!). I...- uosux

Wesely Willis
Has anyone here ever listened to Wesely Willis? If you know who he is, don't yell at me, because I realize its insane too. It has a crazy lure though, and the lyrics make me hystarical. For those of you who don't know, he is (was) a veryfat, schizophrenic black guy who made THOUSANDS of songs... -
Fast energetic rock?
Ok, I will have to try to elucidate: does anyone know of any music which is rockish, fast tempo, good quick beat... I was reminded of this from the "rock" thread. Some Rage Against the Machine songs come to mind, namely "Take The Power Back". Looking for something that gets you really pumped up... -
Personality Tests
Have you ever taken a "real" personality test? I mean one that has a scientific foundation, not some random horoscope or online one. I recently took the Briggs-Meiers test, and it was really interesting. 70 questions, really quick, than it comes up with a four letter personality code you...- uosux

Acceptable source?
I am using a Nomad Zen Xtra for my source, with -APS mp3s. Is this an "acceptable" source? By acceptable I mean is it going to allow me to move up any higher in quality when I add amps, new phones etc.? Is this going to be the limiting factor as I progress? The problem is I have few CDs, so my...- uosux

Zen Headphone Jack FIXED!
Posted at nomadness.net: Ok, I decided this was important enough to warrant its own thread instead of the one I had posted the complaint in. After spending the entire day tinkering with my Xtra, and running to Radio Shack to buy parts, I've fixed the headphone jack. Initially, the left ear...- uosux

Sigh... Headphone Jack Problem - Zen Xtra
I didn't think it would ever happen, but here it is. Listening to music minding my own buisness, when the left channel cuts out. I can bring it back by pushing on the plug but there isn't much hope for it. I assume the right channel will die quickly. I am about a month out of warranty, so I...- uosux

Headphone Jack?
I've heard repeatedly that a headphone jack is inferior to a true line-out, and it is best to amp a line-out. Why is this? I don't doubt it's true, but could someone please explain why this is to me? I am especially curious because I have a Nomad Zen Xtra as a source, and it only has a headphone...- uosux

A shocking discovery
Lately, since delving into the head-fi world I have been discovering a lot of music I never knew existed. I'm not talking about wierd stuff, I'm talking the 'essentials', or things that everyone older than me seems to know about. To break it down, I'm 18, so if it appeared before the 90's I... -
Am I stupid?
Just curious because: even though I have no real income at this point in time, and won't for a while... I continue to browse head-fi constantly. I'm not sure what it is, but I find the stuff so facinating the fact I can't purchase it doesn't stop me. It only make sthe cravings worse... I wish I...- uosux

Requiem for a Dream Soundtrack
How do you feel about this album? The music is pretty interesting, thanks to the Kronos String Quartet or whoever performed it. The way they do the string intruments really adds to the mood of the movie. I find that listening to this music reminds me of the movie a lot, in a sad depressing way... -

Nomad Zen Scroll "Lag" Problem
I've been checking out the different angles on this effect, but still looking into it. If any of you have info, please post it. Increase CD library before upgrade?
I've recently been thrust into the realm of hi-fi, and although money is tight, was looking forward to upgrades. However, I have less CD's than I would like. Is it wiser to pay out first for a good system, than gather more and more CD's? Or should I compose a suitible library first so that I can...- uosux

Newbie: How should I begin my set-up?
Hi, am am prety much all new to the hi-fi world, but I'm eager to get into it. As it stands, I only have Grado SR80's, and play music off of Nomad Zen Xtra 30GB (EAC w/ alt standard). I am interested in starting a home set-up for listening, but do not know where to begin. I'm sorry if this has...- uosux
