    A burning in Helsinki

Just ran across these photos from Helsinki: http://www.flickr.com/photos/primejunta/140957047/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/primeju...7594126365151/ Looks like someone set the old railway warehouses next to the rail station and the Kiasma museum on fire. A real shame -- I remember looking...

    Soviet Headphone Propaganda

Well, sort of. Among other things. But I figured the pictures would be of interest around here. (Via mefi)

    M-Audio being acquired by Avid

Now that's interesting... http://broadcastengineering.com/news...udio-20050201/ I have no idea what this means in terms of possible changes to the M-Audio product line, though -- anyone more familiar with Avid/Digidesign care to hazard a guess?

A creative (?!?) use for old vinyl

Well, even though I'm not a vinyl listener myself, I find this more than a little stomach-turning: Record Bowls VPI or Music Hall needs to release a low-cost "My First Turntable" to get to these kids before it's too late... (VPI CubScout?)

The death of headphones, or just a neat gimmick?

http://www.swiminfo.com/lane9/news/8316.asp (updated to a link that has an actual picture) I've heard lots about bone-conduction audio on a theoretical basis, but this is the first consumer product I remember seeing that actually uses it. So are we all going to be ditching our headphones for...

    The ultimate headphone mod...

...at least, if sound quality is not a priority. http://www.creativemods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1859 Better lock up your R10's if you see this guy coming... (And he certainly should be easy to spot.)

New Via Envy24 (i.e. Chaintech) drivers today!

I don't have a Chaintech AV710 yet, but I'm contemplating getting one. While reading Mr.Radar's setup guide, I went over to the Via site and noticed that they just posted a new 3.24c driver for the Envy24 series, replacing the 3.10a version that has the master volume control bug. No sign of a...

Pulse? We don't need no steenkin' pulse!

Thought I'd share this curious technological advance, for those who haven't seen it: http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99996209 It's an artificial heart pump which acts more like a turbine than a pump -- which means it's a lot more efficient and reliable. It also means that...

0404 is up on E-MU's site

http://www.emu.com/products/product.asp?product=2220 Looks like online retailers are carrying it for $99.99, which is nice to see, with an estimated ship date of 7/15. For some unexplained reason, though, only the Japanese model is going to have RCA's for analog I/O. The rest of the world...

    Lo-fi tubes. Very, very lo-fi.

Just out of morbid curiousity, anyone tried one of these? I'm posting in this forum only because it seems, in some very vague and abstract sense, to resemble an amp more than anything else I can name... Somehow, I don't see this as a threat to the Singlepower PPX3. Warning to the unwary...

Tell me why you hate the A900!

All right, I'm starting to be seriously tempted by the A-T A900. Almost everyone who's posted about it lately seems to really like them (thanks especially to dj_mocok for his review, and lindrone for all his various commentary), and they seem very well-suited to my needs. However, before I take...

A whole new problem with the iBuds

I haven't experienced them myself, but I know that the buds included with the iPod are not well-loved in these parts. Looks like they've got more problems than sound quality -- they can also get you mugged. Seems like most people here have been hit hard in the wallet by headphones at one time...
