Smyth Research Realiser A16
Ok, I can confirm that the Smyth Research FAQ is still out of date when it says, "Sweeps can also be directed to the 16-ch analog outputs, the SPDIF or the mono speaker/tactile output". Sweeps can not be directed to SPDIF out. I have a set of ASYNC 7.1.4 test tones (wav files from the shared...- Monkey King

Smyth Research Realiser A16
Is anyone using the A16 in combination with a Mac running current MacOS? The v2 manual indicates the "USB interface only functions with Mac OS 10.12 [2016] or older". Originally I wanted to go M1MacMini>USB>A16 for two scenarios: 1. Listen to multichannel music using JRiver. 2. Watch...- Monkey King

Smyth Research Realiser A16
Want to confirm something: Can sweeps now be output via the A16's SPDIF? Is that SPDIF OUT-A or B (or doesn't matter). I've had the A16 for years but have never actually set it up because I don't have a receiver. I only have a USB DAC feeding Meridian DSP speakers whose only input is SPDIF. The...- Monkey King

Smyth Research Realiser A16
Does anyone know how to output the PRIR sweeps to the SPDIF digital outputs? I'm using active speakers with only digital inputs so I can't use the analog CH1-16 outputs. The FAQ suggests this is possible ("Sweeps can also be directed to the 16-ch analog outputs, the SPDIF or the mono...- Monkey King

Melodious MX-U8 USB Interface 8 Core XMOS chip
Are all the outputs active on the MX-U8 at the same time? For example, if I connect the coaxial RCA, optical, and AES outputs to three separate devices at once, will all three devices get the same signal?- Monkey King

Long awaited Smyth SVS Realiser NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE
I'm looking for some advice configuring the Realiser for Direct Bass + Managed bass + Tactile outputs. Going over the manual a few times I gathered that: "Direct bass" means redirecting the LFE signal direct to the headphone, e.g. bypass SVS "Managed bass" means high-pass filtering (HPF...- Monkey King

Long awaited Smyth SVS Realiser NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE
Anyone using a tactile transducer with their Realiser /w success? I wanted to get some tips on configuration settings. I’m trying to understand the difference/relationship between Direct Bass, LFE redirection, bass management, HP MIX, MIX to HP, etc. After reading the manual a few times, these...- Monkey King

Long awaited Smyth SVS Realiser NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE
Here's a new headphone that can virtualise 25 speakers and has head tracking in a relatively traditional looking headphone for $299. No personalisation, but the neat thing is that you don't have to wear a separate head tracking device, and it works even when you turn completely around. ...- Monkey King

Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model
Has anyone tried connecting the ZX1 to a receiver/amp? I understand there's WM-port to Stereo RCA cables available, but I'm confused if connecting it this way would be considered digital out or line out? For example, how does the player know which mode to go into?- Monkey King

DIY amp ~$300 choices
Ok, I really need some advice. I would like to have a dedicated solid state headphone amp for $200-300. With this money, I know I can buy a commercial amp, but I think the money will also buy some very parts. I have read through the forums and there are simply too many choices. Can someone...- Monkey King

PCB vs wire-to-wire
Hi, Can someone explain to me what are the sonic advantages/disadvantages to using a PCB? Most DIY projects don't involve professional PCBs, so I'm wondering if sonics are sacrificed as a result. More specifically, will Jan's HA-1 design be optimal in its PCB form? Thanks for reading- Monkey King

pre-amp vs. headphone amp
Hi, I would like to know: Is it possible to do headphone-only listening with just a CD player and pre-amp (given it has a headphone output)? Secondly, if the answer to the first question is yes, then does anyone have any experiences with pre-amps driving headphones? The quality I'm...- Monkey King

HD580 cleaning
Hi, Has anyone tried to clean the ear cushions of a HD580? I want to clean these but don't know if they're washable, or dry clean only. Also, are both the ear cushions and cable removeable? They seem to be pretty secure, and I didn't want to just rip them out. Thanks again.- Monkey King

Headphone amp difference
Hi, I have a Sennheiser HD580 and I'm looking to buy a first headphone amp. Right now, I listen either through the headphone jack of a discman or a Yamaha RX-V990. Needless to say, using the Yamaha is a lot better. Now, my question is, if I get an entry level headphone amp, such as the...- Monkey King
