I have a rather technical question about modi 2 uber.  Although it has its own linear power supply, the usb receiver chip still gets powered from the input usb.  But is it a one time thing (only for connection between the pc and dac) or continuously?

My advice is getting the HD800 (or T1) ,they will blow you away! and they are bass monsters, just put some bass heavy tracks and the subs will start rumbling.    you just need to get used to a neutral sound that's all

The "turn off power" feature is nice when using a self powered dac , although some dacs need the usb power for the usb receiver chip.  But for usb powered dacs I would still prefer a wyrd repowering and reclocking, which used audiophile quality parts and designed specifically for this purpose...

I would say that it's harder to differentiate between dacs than amps. I still believe that external dedicated dacs should be better than the motherboard built in ones but the latter could be also nice.  But I really don't think that the built in amp is even close in performance to a dedicated...

Wyrd is probably the most efficient product I have ever got. IMO it is a must for a usb powered DAC to get the maximum out of it.
