Sony has new headphones, MDR-1R
Hey, I just found a pair of the Sony MDR-1R for sale for a decent price. Currently I have the JVC RX900's and was thinking of upgrading to either the SOny MDR-1R or the AKG K701's. I have all kinds of music tastes from Jean Michael Jarre to Pink floyd, From Razorlight and the killers...- melmac

Creative Sound Blaster new series Z, Zx & ZxR
Hi, I read through this thread with interest, I have the creative Z since the end of October and I am more than happy with it. In fact I was shocked by how good it was. Now maybe I am influenced by the fact that loads of people said I was mad to buy a card without any reviews, that it was based...- melmac

What is the best gaming/movie/music can...
I use the JVC RX900's for FPs gaming and console gaming. they are really good and have an amazing soundstage. One mate who tried them on thought that the sound was coming from my speakers and not the headphones. He was really surprised at how wide the soundstage was.- melmac

Ok I removed just the top layer of the felt ring, don't have any foam or dynamat here. Is the foam/dynamat essential?- melmac

JVC HA-RX900 modifications, a picture tutorial. (56k, forget about it...)
Hi Toppop, Really good instructions and very easy to follow, thanks very much. My question, will I improve the sound quality by much if just go as far as step 2? Does removing that felt ring you threw out open up the headphones at all? Or do you have to go the whole way and put on the dynamat?- melmac

Well I have just got mine today and have never had such a good pair of headphones. Will be interested to hear how you get on with the modding and does it make much difference. Will have to make a lot of difference for me to rip apart the best headphones I ever owned lol.- melmac

JVC HAR-X700 and 900. Two of the best dynamics? Am I nuts?
And now my rant, After listening to these headphones all day and then going back to my 5.1 speaker system I realise now that it doesn't actually sound as good as I thought it did. So now I have to buy higher quality speakers. If I don't change them it will drive me crazy anytime I listen to...- melmac

JVC HAR-X700 and 900. Two of the best dynamics? Am I nuts?
I recently asked about a few headphones on this forum but I was always very nervous of spending $200 on a pair of headphones and then not liking them. But, I really wanted to buy a better headphones than the 5.1 headset I had. So just as I was going to forget buying a better pair of headphones...- melmac

Ok, the HAR-X900 seem to be an amazing set of headphones for the price. I think I will get a pair. Just they are hard to find in Ireland. I found a pair on ebay, but they are JVC HPR-X900. ARe the HP a different model from the HA?- melmac

New Headphone advice for very total newbie :-)
Ok, I am now gone from thinking about spending less than 300 to spending crazy money on a system. What do all think of Beyerdynamic Headzone Pro I have been reading about it and it looks very impressive. Or do you think that it is too much for too little and that a stax system like...- melmac

New Headphone advice for very total newbie :-)
Sorry, I have been thinking about this and just can't get my head around it. Why do I need a DAC/headphone amp to go between my PC and headphones? When I already have a $1500 receiver from Marantz there already? Are you saying that the sound will be better if I connect my PC to a DAC...- melmac

Ah, that's the trouble with upgrading, it's never as simple as just buying one thing, there is always another thing around the corner that you need to get!! Ok, glad to know that about the Stax and the DAC.- melmac

New Headphone advice for very total newbie :-)
Thanks for all the replies so far. Would I have to get a DAC even if I have connected the PC using analog and optical connections to my receiver and will be connecting my headphones to my receiver? Yeah, I keep returning to the AD900's. LOL, my soul phones, I like that. I have no way of...- melmac

New Headphone advice for very total newbie :-)
Thanks for the reply. So Stax seem to be the best. What about the ultrasone 750 or 2500's? Would either of them be as good as the Stax? And if I buy the Stax will I need an amp? Or can I use them in my receiver? Lastly, What are entry level Stax's? I mean there is the Stax SR-001 MKII...- melmac
