FiiO’s Upgraded Bluetooth Amplifier BTR1K: Qualcomm QCC 3005 BT chip, BT 5.0 and aptX /aptX LL/AAC supported, RGB light, NFC pairing, Type C and USB DAC
Huh? When there is misinformation about BT5, it is (of course) not intentional. Just journalists and bloggers extrapolating from partial information (e.g. press releases) and copying each other. The accurate and complete data is freely available on the Bluetooth SIG website (there and there)...- Bombyx

FiiO’s Upgraded Bluetooth Amplifier BTR1K: Qualcomm QCC 3005 BT chip, BT 5.0 and aptX /aptX LL/AAC supported, RGB light, NFC pairing, Type C and USB DAC
For Hi-Fi audio purposes, BT5 is not more power efficient than BT4.2, @FiiO is right about that. Do not trust web articles about BT5, most of them are inaccurate.- Bombyx

FiiO BTR3-The World' First Bluetooth Headphone Amplifier, SBC/AAC/aptX/aptX LL/aptX HD/LDAC/HWA (LHDC)
@holsen BT5 can be more power efficient (than BT4.2) for some use cases, but Hi-Fi audio is not one of them. On last November, when the ES100 became BT5 compliant (via firmware update) its users did not notice any battery life improvement. An interesting read about BT5 ...- Bombyx

Hardly so. Actually, as far as Hi-Fi audio is concerned, the only improvement of BT 5 is the Slot Availability Mask, which improves the coexistence with other wireless devices (especially LTE). This can affect the signal quality in some circumstances, but nothing dramatic. The bitrate is...- Bombyx

FiiO BTR3-The World' First Bluetooth Headphone Amplifier, SBC/AAC/aptX/aptX LL/aptX HD/LDAC/HWA (LHDC)
I hated the notification sounds of v1.0, they were much too loud (made me jump up each time). So for me, the sounds of v1.2 are a great relief, a much needed improvement. But I agree that they are not perfect, they sound noisy and they are not distinctive enough. Just a random guess, but maybe...- Bombyx

It is a device-stored EQ (as you previously understood) otherwise a firmware update would not have been needed. Have you tried resetting the BTR3 after updating (as mentioned in the update instructions)?- Bombyx

It is certainly a long-awaited feature, and I can relate how you feel. Personally I have been interested in buying the BTR3 since day one, but I have decided that I needed the EQ feature, so I have postponed my purchase, and I routinely check here about any progress. I was very excited when...- Bombyx

The NEW JVC HA-S400. Affordable Carbon Nanotube cans for the masses.
I recently bought the S400, and I was wondering about the durability of the stock earpads. In my experience, pleather earpads tend to wear out quicker than expected, due to warmth and lipids from the skin. I bought these foam earpad covers...- Bombyx

Kanen KM 92 Review (Budget woody IEM)
Thank you for this detailed review. Focusing a little on cheap IEMs is refreshing. I would be very surprised if Kanen KM-92 were better than SoundMAGIC PL20, but since they are cheaper, I am now curious about them. Until now, the only Kanen earphones which got good reports (notably in...- Bombyx

Fake IE8
You are right, it would not stop fake IEMs from being produced, but it would make them harder to sell as genuine, both at the wholesale and retail/eBay levels. At least people who care (most audiophiles I hope) would know which sellers to avoid.- Bombyx

Fake IE8
I wonder why Sennheiser does not take measures against counterfeiting, like shipping sealed registration keys to their Chinese factory. If not able to register online, a buyer would know he got a fake product.- Bombyx

Woot.com 1gb Clip for $10
Yeah, and I have been looking for a low-capacity Clip for some time, but I do not live in US. Could a kind Head-Fier buying one for him, taking one for me as well ? It is then very easy to send to Europe in a bubble envelope (I do not need any box). You would be my friend for life. Edit...- Bombyx

Which SoundMagic? PL 11, 12, 18 or 20?
Do not worry, neither PL12 nor PL20 are very bassy, the difference is quite subtle. I prefer PL12's Y cord too, but the PL20 definitely look better (and L/R are much easier to tell apart).- Bombyx

Which SoundMagic? PL 11, 12, 18 or 20?
This thread is not that old. I recently got the PL20, but I have had little time to try them. My first impression is that I like them at least as much as the PL12 (better design, slightly more bass). They have a J cord.- Bombyx
