Suggestions on next "SS" headphone amp build... coming from SSMH, SOHAII, Mini3
The reason I asked about gain, I'm finding with the AMB Gamma1 DAC and Mini3 with 6XX I'm only at maybe 9-10 o'clock and its loud enough. By default I believe the Mini3 has a 5x gain (14 db) which is same as Whammy. Mini3 uses a 10k pot and for the Whammy I was planning on a 50k.- bmwpowere36m3

Suggestions on next "SS" headphone amp build... coming from SSMH, SOHAII, Mini3
Putting together the BOM has been tricky, but I ordered the Whammy PCB. Some substitutions on parts, but I think I'll have what I need. Going with a 18V 25VA transformer as the 22V ones are NA. Picked up a few op-amps to try out: LM833N, OPA2107AP, AD746JNZ and the stock RC4580IP. What gain...- bmwpowere36m3

Suggestions on next "SS" headphone amp build... coming from SSMH, SOHAII, Mini3
I saw you posts regarding the Whammy... sounds like their all good. I think I've settled on the Whammy. Looks like the ACP+ would be a better preamp. Though I'm not fully up on the benefits, but having input/output selections and master volume would be nice. Any suggestions on Whammy and...- bmwpowere36m3

I'm also throwing the idea of Ananda if it's a worthy upgrade from the Sundara... or hold off till I'm ready for an Arya (if ever).- bmwpowere36m3

Next step from HD580s
IIRC, I bought the 580s used and they already had the black metal grills like (center vs. right) I don't know the difference in sound, since I never had the original plastic "z" grills. Now the baffle or structure holding the driver, I don't remember...- bmwpowere36m3

Next step from HD580s
I sold off my HD580s (HD600 grills and HD650 cables) as I hadn't been using them too much the past few years (other priorities and hobbies)... plus they had some issues (cracked headband and intermittent connection). Now, I'm interested in getting back into it... so the question is any...- bmwpowere36m3

Suggestions on next "SS" headphone amp build... coming from SSMH, SOHAII, Mini3
Did you build the latest Sapphire (discrete) or the earlier with op-amp? Looking the latest build spreadsheet, it notes matching is not necessary but does help. Biasing with a trimmer is no problem, but I see drift is noted. Whereas the Whammy, I believe, is self-biasing. Can you describe...- bmwpowere36m3

Thanks O2 - I'm thinking this isn't really a step up from what I have MilletMax - already have a few Millet products Whammy - Nelson Pass, his "personal" headphone amp design M3 - AMB was highly regarded in the day, natural evolution from Mini3 Beta22 (2-channel) - same as above, just another...- bmwpowere36m3

I like to DIY, back then you could build an amp for less than a commercial equivalent. Besides the ability to change things yourself and the satisfaction of building something. Nowadays, browsing this forum, diyAudio and Reddit I'm mostly seeing references to off the shelf, CI-FI stuff...- bmwpowere36m3

Suggestions on next "SS" headphone amp build... coming from SSMH, SOHAII, Mini3
Looking for a new build, something higher-end and SS... started my journey with a iMod mini, CMOY, SSMH, Gainclone, Mini3, Gamma1 and a SOHAII. At the time I was using HD580s, which have since been sold and will be replaced with HD600/HD650/HD6xx one of them. I'm also interested in planars...- bmwpowere36m3

Bantam DAC as source for two amplifiers?
Quote: I could use the speaker inputs on the subwoofer, however I'd like this to be more universal if I end up using a different subwoofer. IIRC the trafo is a 22+22 VAC, so ~ 32 VDC is what I have readily available within the amp. I could also build a small voltage regulator to drop the...- bmwpowere36m3

Bantam DAC as source for two amplifiers?
I built a Gainclone amp a while ago to power a set of full-range speakers. Now I'd like to add a separate subwoofer. Is it possible to use the Bantam DAC as the source for two amplifiers. The gainclone uses the Bantam DAC as the Input > 10k pot > stereo amplifier I was...- bmwpowere36m3

Eagle PCB design opinions (non-audio related)
