ATH-EW9 Mod: Improved sound, reduced comfort
Last night I received a pair of AT's EW9 clip-on ear phones. I would rate their stock fit as C- and comfort at a B. SQ-wise it excels in detail, but lacks in bass. It's a design issue due to the swinging hinge. There is not enough tension to keep the ear phones snug against your ear, they flop...- tschanrm

Quick review of running headphones, the inverted Bose In Ears!
Two weeks ago I had my clip+ and KSC35's stolen at the gym. Since then I've been looking for alternatives. I liked the ksc35s, but their fit while running never felt right. With that information in mind, I set out to find a pair of ear buds weighing in less than 20g, non-sealed (i.e. not...- tschanrm

X-Fi SRC questions
I have a couple of questions about X-Fi's SRC algorithm. My system setup is an X-Fi ExtremeMusic and an Audigy 2ZS. My first question is with the SRC and different X-Fi modes. All three different audio modes (Creation/Entertainment/Game) show different results under RMAA (Rightmark Audio...- tschanrm

Send MP3 raw over S/PDIF
Don't know if this has ever been discussed before, but there is an old program called Mpegspdif (http://www.cs.tut.fi/~ik/mpegspdif.html for foobar. It sends the MP3 file over the s/pdif link for the receiver's DSP chip to decode it. Why would I want to decode the MP3 at the receiver? Easy, you...- tschanrm

Can you hear jitter, why not find out.....
Lately I've been doing some thinking about jitter, and the effects it has on the audible signal of sound. From doing some reading, I found a website which has test signals with added jitter (also called fm modulation on the website). Read this page, then download the test samples. There is a...- tschanrm

JVC's RX-D201 receiver has USB Input- receiver acts as a soundcard
I've been eyeing up a JVC RX-D201 receiver for a while, as it support USB input. I was waiting to get one because I didn't know what formats it would support; being a mainstream player probably meant only MP3. Today I finally found the user manual for it, and the receiver acts as a soundcard, so...- tschanrm

Using a 0404 as a pre-amp question
I've got an 0404 and am pursuing a DIY class d amp project. I'm planning on cutting cost by using the analog out on my card to drive the amp instead of using a dedicated preamp. I'm aware of the nuances of using a pc for this purpose, but this computer will be for audio/video only, and I don't...- tschanrm

DC Offset question about source->amp
I've modded out my 0404 and measured a dc offset of about 1v on the rigth channel and about 2v on the left channel. These values are pretty consistent. Should the offset be about the same for both channels? I'm using using lt1364 opamp, maybe I have a cold solder joint or something causes the...- tschanrm

Question about modding sound cards
I have a general question about modding soundcards. When people mod their cards out, like in the case of the 0404, they remove opamps (or replace) and some caps (or replace) in order to get better sound. My question is why would a company then put these extra parts on the sound card if the sound...- tschanrm

Winamp Resampling Plugin for AC97 Cards
I came across this plugin for winamp last week while setting up my second computer with my old TBSC. http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=141806 It's supposed to resample to 48khz, thus getting rid of the sound card to do the resampling. Its supposed to be for SB Live, but it...- tschanrm

RMAA 5.4 test and 0404, strange results
I posted this over at productionforums, but I thought I might get a quicker answer if I asked it here. I've had a 0404 for a couple of weeks now, been happy with it so far. Anyway, I went to benchmark the card in RMAA 5.4 and got results lower than what others have been posting, take a look...- tschanrm
