Soldering generally only has a SQ impact if you screw up. The point of eutectic alloys is that the temperature band at which it liquefies is very narrow. This means that it melts very quickly when the right temperature is reached (to which end, you set your iron appropriately if possible) and...

The Sn/Pb eutectic blend is 63/37. 60/40 is cheap, and that's pretty much all it has going for it.

My setup was about $650, and I could easily have done it for less if I had the patience to wait a while. I'm glad I didn't though. It'll end up costing me more to get it the way I want it though. The noise floor on my power amp is too high at higher gain settings. That or it's 60Hz line...

Against another card, no. Against the case, possibly. If you go that route it might be good to put something nonconductive under it.

For instruments I would be thinking isolation + relatively neutral. From there...Sony v6 + velour mod is ~$100. Pretty sure € > $ currently so that'd do you if you can get a supplier. For more €€ I would be thinking Beyer DT150. Maybe you have different criteria or others can come up with...

Lee, were you heating the solder or the contact? Also if that's not a eutectic blend (I don't recognize that blend since I haven't messed with copper-bearing solders much) then get one that is...eutectic = major win.
