Who are some good female artists???

She may not be lesser known, but I really enjoyed Gillian Welch's last album (Soul Journey). I don't listen to a lot of folk/country, but I like this one a lot, especially "Look at Miss Ohio" and "One Monkey." The sparce but well thought out instrumentation combined with Welch's steady, slow...

    Best Soundtrack?

Okay, okay. So don't laugh at me (unless you really want to) but I really like the soundtrack from "The Lost Boys" You know, the cheesy vampire movie from the 80s starring Corey Feldman? Yea. But really, Echo and the Bunnymen playing 'People are Strange' is a good time...

recommend me music similar to modest mouse, the shins, the flaming lips, etc..

The Arcade Fire's "Funeral" which came out a couple months ago is very, very good. The story is that band members' family members kept dying, so much of the album is about life and death and such, but more in that uplifiting kind of way than that depressing kind of way. Beyond that (and more...

    is this truly impossible?

Wait. Am I to understand that you deliberately droped your $250 audio player on the floor repeatedly? Or was that a joke? My advice is to get another Karama, since you seemed to like it. This time however, use different "tactics" to restore it to working order. I've had my Karma for around...

    Disintegration Loops

So I want to buy William Basinski's "Disintegration Loops" both because its been getting great reviews and it seems to have a very interesting back story. However, it seems to be difficult to find an online store that carries it. Can anyone tell me a good place to buy this (and attest to its...

Has an artists behaviour ever turned you off their music?

Maybe I missed it, but I can't believe no one has mentioned Metallica. I always felt kinda neutral towards their music (metal was never my favorite). But after they started sueing their own fans I could no longer stand to hear their songs (I mean, it was bad enough when they cut their hair)...

    Study Music

Sigur Ros' album () is good for studying. Soothing and slowish. Not a lot of lyrics, and when there are lyrics, they are in some sort of Icelandic language that I obviously don't speak, so they don't distract.

What will the music of the future be? (I have mine already, I think)

According to Ian MacKaye, the music of the future = ska+emo it will be called, of course, skemo. I for one can't wait.

Albums, you can't wait to get your hands on?

Against Me! is supposed to release a "Sink Florida Sink" 7" sometime this summer. I'm looking forward to owning that...and maybe they'll eventually re-release their original S/T full length that was actually never really released. That would be awesome, but I really don't see it happening...

    FUGAZI

Alas, hardcore is not now what it was in the late 80s. If you find yourself enjoying fugazi a lot and want more, I recomend checking out the three bands Guy Piccioto was in before Fugazi. Namely, Rites of Spring, One Last Wish, and Happy Go Licky. Of the three, Happy Go Licky is the most...

    The Faint

As Helloween pointed out, Faint drifted towards new wave on Blank Wave Arcade. I've heard them described as "Dance Punk" (for good reason I think, you can certainly get down with Blank Wave Arcade) and if you like...Hot Hot Heat, or maybe Rapture, you'd probably really like Blank Wave Arcade. I...

    Your favorite CD to recommend

I usually don't recomend anything to people unless they ask. Usually people don't like my recomendations... That said, in an effort to keep my aging lawyer/sister as hip and cool as possible I have given her both Neutral Milk Hotel albums and Sigur Ros' (). She claims to like all of them and...
