Wood earphones are such a gimmick

The wood is so small and thin that it doesn't really resonate and is like plastic. But more importantly, the wood is rear facing, but the nozzle holding the piece is plastic. Metal, yes, is a good housing material because of its density and it makes a noticable difference .wood is just a gimmick.

Sony WF-1000X discussion thread: Truly wireless IEM with Active Noise Cancelling!

I really like these. The connection issues and the battery life are lacking, but the sound quality and comfort is superb. These sound very good, comparable if not better than many dual drivers. I think the connection issues come from the phone being bombarded by new WiFi networks. It does drop...

    $20-$50 wireless headphones

    Thinksound Rain Impressions

I picked them up for relatively cheap, $35 on sale.   Impressions:   1. Really good for vocal pieces. 2. Not that good for rock or groove. bass doesn't extend far enough. 3. I'm not used to having such detailed upper register sound, sibilance from the cymbals. 4. Build is okay but...

    Best Smartphone for audiophile

Look, I don't listen to 24/192 either, but is it cool that the device supports it, as well as FLAC playback and gapless. I'm enjoying the sound. I generally find blackberry engineering to be pretty well thought out and detail oriented.

    Best Smartphone for audiophile

I've done a bit of comparing with my iPhone 5 between the two.   I'd say that the Z10 feels rougher but more detailed, while the iPhone is smoother but has less detail.

    Best Smartphone for audiophile

Left field suggestion: Blackberry z10. It is small too. The Qualcomm wcd9310 dac also supports 24/192

Blackberry Z10 + Neutron Music Player = excellent Sound Quality

Well, some quick research. The Z10 uses the Qualcomm WCD9310. Apparently it supports 24/192 as well.   I've been listening to it a lot tonight. It's hard to tell, really, for me how good the DAC really is compared to others. Initial impressions were that it sounded...clinically restrained...

Official Ipod Video / Classic 5g+5.5g+6g+6.5g+7g SSD Mod thread

Two things: I bought an iPod 5th from eBay. Seller promised that he had replaced the battery. The battery lasts about an hour on playback. It can be on standby just fine for hours, but start playing it and it goes to 80% before plunging to zero. Could there be some sort of memory effect within...

Official Ipod Video / Classic 5g+5.5g+6g+6.5g+7g SSD Mod thread

So I have an iPod video 5th generation which I'm thinking about modding.   It is the thinner 30gb version.   There seems to be two ways to do this. One way is get an mSata to zif adapter. On eBay there's a board under   NEW mSATA PCI-E SSD to 40pin ZIF CE Cable Adapter Card for IPOD...

Anyone know the DAC on the macbook plastic unibody?

I'm listening to music through my macbook right now...and it's damn good. Anyone know what sort of DAC they put in the macbook's headphone port? The model number I think is A1342

How do the Brainwavz Delta and the Xioami piston earphones compare?

Like the title asks. They're about the same price, the Brainwavz is a little cheaper by about $5.    I"m mainly interested in instrument separation. Given how fragile IEM's are, I'm not willing to pay over $50 for IEM's.

    Anyone listen with Nokia Phones?

The Nokia 520 and 820 both have expandable storage, and Win8 mobile.   I listened to the 820 recently...and I liked it a lot. I honestly felt that the sound was more detailed and crisp than what I got from my 5g ipod touch. I felt like I could get more of the music's texture. Dolby headphone...

Sony Discman D-121 a hidden gem

Okay, for starters, I haven't had any experience with any of the classics like the d555, or even the d-34.   The D-121 sounds pretty darn good. Compared to to the D-e301 discman (10 sec anti-skip) or the Panasonic SL-S200 (again, anti-skip) the 121 seems to have a more expansive soundstage...

    Discman alignment

I have a D112 discman.   It's not really one of the recommended vintage PCDP's, but I like it enough.   It seems to have problems with alignment. Especially the first few tracks tend to skip like crazy. I gather that this is because the disc spins at a faster rate on the inner tracks and...

Any PCDP's good with scratched discs?

I'm using a D-121, which is a neat piece of vintage electronics, but it's pretty awful with scratched discs. even light scratches throws it off. It seems like it's worse at the beginning of discs.   I assume that scratch resistance is a function of laser strength. Which discmen are better...

Just Picked up a D-121 Discman

The last time I listened to a physical cd must have been...a long time ago. Like, 8 yrs ago.   Otherwise, I listen to ipods.   I feel like the player itself looked better in the photos than it does in real life. I really liked the industrial design, which was pretty angular and interest...

    Older Sony Discmans

Hah. okay.    D555 wasn't ever on my radar screen anyways. Nostalgia moves to towards the D-171. I did win a D-121 recently for under $20, mostly because it has this cool DeLorean look to it.

    Older Sony Discmans

So I hear a lot about how like the D-555 is really good.   Kind of out of my price range.   I used to have a DE301 when I was younger. How did that model compare? It seems to me that the big line for the discmans is when they started using the compression for the anti-skip instead of...

    DIY Cable Gallery!!

So what sizes of sleeving and shrink tape work best for a regular pair of headphones like the apple in ears monitors?   Sleeving smallest I can find is 3/32 and shrink I can find 1/16.    Thinking about just using shrink as housing.

Does there exist like a dedicated earphone earmuff?

Quote: Yes, I have.    Well, for starters...it's just something that I don't remember. I mean, music while exercising is a small part...   But also the few that I have tried weren't very good. Like, people recommend the Koss KSC 75 for exercise.   I've used them in exercise...

Does there exist like a dedicated earphone earmuff?

Basically, for use while exercising or on the go. I have my IEM's fall out a lot on me.    Think it's a good idea? Like, if there were one that managed to keep earphones in without compressing your ears too hard or making them too hot.
