Happy as a Pig in Schiit: Introducing Modi Multibit
I'll be very interested to hear more about this specific comparison. I have an old Musical Fidelity V-DAC too, and I've been wondering if it is time to replace it. The Modi Multibit has caught my eye, so I'll be interested to see if you think it is a clear upgrade or just something with a bit of...- vjack

Schiit Bifrost Uber Analog Upgrade
As someone else with a V-DAC and eyeing the Bifrost, I'd love to hear whether you found it to be a significant upgrade over your V-DAC. I'm looking for a clear step up rather than just a move to an equivalent DAC.- vjack

Schiit Bifrost V.S. Peachtree DAC-iT
It looks like Peachtree has a new model coming that does 24/192 over async USB. See http://www.peachtreeaudio.com/dac-it-x-digital-to-analog-converter.html- vjack

Schiit Bifrost vs. Emotiva XDA-2
I've been looking at these two as well and would love to read a comparison. I am currently leaning toward the USP-1/Bifrost combination because it looks like the USP offers a subwoofer out while the XDA-2 does not.- vjack

Best type of RCA splitter to use??
I'm giving this thread a bump because I have the same question. I have a DAC with one set of RCA outs, and I'd like to send it to powered speakers and a headphone amp.- vjack

computer speaker ideas?
I have heard good things about those M-Audio speakers, but I haven't heard them. It looks like they are more than $100 though. I would think almost any external speakers would sound quite a bit better than your laptop speakers.- vjack

Audioengine A2s or Audioengine N22 Amp+Audioending P4s
I have the A2s (as well as the A5s). Since you are not focusing on nearfield, my guess is that you'd be happier with the P4s than the A2s. The A2s are nice for nearfield, but I don't think they'd cut it for the application you are describing. -
Audioengine A2 & A5 - Upgrade the Wire/Cables?
I did upgrade the RCA cables I use to connect my A2s to my DAC because one of the originals was not connecting tightly and I wanted something more durable. I haven't noticed any SQ improvement, but I am not as worried about the cable coming loose now. I wouldn't think a speaker wire upgrade... -
Thinking of getting the Audioengine D1. Thoughts?
I picked up an Audioengine D1 recently because I was looking for a somewhat more portable solution than my Musical Fidelity V-DAC (this is the original black one and not the new version), and I wanted one that had a built-in headphone amp. The D1 is an improvement over no DAC, and the amp works...- vjack

Upgrade from A5s
I'm thinking about replacing my A5s with a separate receiver and passive monitors too. I have an old Onkyo receiver I'm not using for anything else. It is a home theater model, but I would think it could still work. Would something like Cambridge Audio S30s or Infinity Primus P163s be good for a...- vjack

Fidelia - OS X Premium Music Player |OT|
I finished my test of Fidelia and am now testing Audirvana Plus. Not only does it sound a bit better in my opinion, but it has been far more stable on my system. Fidelia would refuse to play about every fifth song when set on shuffle play from my iTunes library. When I tried to resume manually...- vjack

Fidelia - OS X Premium Music Player |OT|
I've been running the demo of the basic Fidelia player and like it very much. I started the trial of the Advanced module today to see what else it offered. I cannot hear a difference between running with hog mode on or off. Same for the load track to physical memory option. Those are the only...- vjack

Fidelia questions....
I've been testing Fidelia, and this is how I've set it up (i.e., set to match the song). It has not been easy to find recommendations about how to configure this program, but that seems to be one of the few I've seen multiple times.- vjack

Fidelia on Lion OSX
Running the trial of the basic Fidelia player, and my issue is that the audio seems to stop whenever there is a system sound of any kind and will not resume unless I open the preferences or Audio MIDI Setup. I must have something set wrong, but I haven't been able to figure out what it might be.- vjack

Audirvana Plus vs. BitPerfect vs. Fidelia
I don't have any interest in BitPerfect because iTunes is crashes my mac constantly, but I'm taking a look at the other two and would also be very interested to know what others think about them.- vjack

Budget Grado SR60i DAC + AMP
I'm not familiar with the Xonar, but I'd probably ditch the lossy mp3s first. Then you could try replacing the Xonar with a combined DAC/amp. I've been thinking of picking up an Audioengine D1 for this purpose but haven't decided yet.- vjack

Please help, do I need a DAC?
I would think that a DAC would be a nice upgrade. I could certainly hear a difference from putting a DAC between my iMac and speakers. The Audioengine D1 should help.- vjack

Help me think through my options for a new headphone setup
I've been fairly happy with the budget speaker system I put together for computer audio with the help of this forum: Lossless music on iMac --> Musical Fidelity V-DAC (with Pangea P-100 power supply) via optical --> powered Audioengine A2s Now I'd like to put together a headphone...- vjack

Audioengine A5
I now have my A5s on mopads on top of phone books. They sound much better, and I was surprised how much of a difference proper elevation made. Still no DAC, but Musical Fidelity V-DAC ordered.- vjack

Apogee Duet vs. Cambridge DacMagic?
I decided I didn't like the fact that the Duet was Mac only. After reading some more reviews and doing some shopping around, I settled on a Musical Fidelity V-DAC. It hasn't arrived yet, but it looks like it will be a good starting point.- vjack

Audioengine/dac question.
I still haven't gotten around to picking up a DAC, but I did get the A5s off the desk and have been very impressed with the difference it made. Definitely something I should have done much sooner.- vjack

Apogee Duet vs. Cambridge DacMagic?
I'd like to pick up one of these to sit between my iMac and Audioengine A5s. I'm aware of the reported USB jitter with the DacMagic and would use a Toslink connection if I go that route. I've had little luck finding comparisons of these two. Any opinions?- vjack
