Interconnect DIY question: which side to ground?

When building interconnects a common construction technique is to attach both the shield and neutral leg on one side while leaving the shield unconnected at the other end.  From what I understand, you are supposed to do this on the "source" side of the cable but I have always been a little...

Balanced XLR interconnect: where to attach the sheild?

Quote: OK, so I think you are referencing the small rectangular metal tab (pin 4?) extending from the inside of the connector, right?   If that's correct, then I should connect both ends of the shield to this small metal tab on each end of the cable, right?

Balanced XLR interconnect: where to attach the sheild?

So are you saying that I should not connect the shield at pin 1 on both ends?

Balanced XLR interconnect: where to attach the sheild?

I'm building my first set of balanced XLR interconnects and I want to know if I should attached the shield to both ends of the cable?  I saw the cable building schematics on the Rane website where both ends of the shield are connected but I remember reading that some people advocate...

Has anybody tried the First Watt F3 w/ K1000s?

There's tons of info on the F1/K1000 combination but I didn't find much on how well the K1000s go with the F3. I know that the F1 is supposedly more optimized for the K1000s but I was wondering if anybody has actually heard the F3/K1000 combo.

I've been thinking about hiring a builder to build me one. Not sure what the costs would be though. Any rough idea?

I haven't found any reviews about this amp. Of course, I could have searched using the wrong parameters but still . . .

Cardas 4x24: Connect the shield or not?

I'm building my first headphone extension cable and I'm using Cardas 4x24. Should I connect the shield to ground on one end of the cable? If so, which end? I did a search and found nothing definitive. What I read actually confused me. Thanks!

How do you cut bar solder into smaller pieces?

Just got some Cardas bar solder. This is the first time I've ever used bar solder. I'm not sure how to cut it into smaller pieces so I can put it into the solder pot. The pot only has a 1 inch inner diameter. Any suggestions on how to cut this stuff?

    Help using solder pot

Thanks for all the input guys. I just talked with Josh @ Cardas and he said that the solder pot they include with their termination kit is actually a Hexacon 946 which reaches 600F. So according to Cardas, either a 600F solder pot or an 800F solder iron will do the job. I'll probably...

    Help using solder pot

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate that. The reason I got an 800 deg F pot is because Cardas actually recommends an 800F soldering iron or a solder pot. I'm not sure if they mean that both the iron and the pot need to reach 800F or just the iron. That seems like a dangerously high...

    Help using solder pot

I just purchased a Hexacon 948 solder pot (which is set to reach 800 degrees F - no other temps are possible) so I can both tin my wires and burn the enamel off some Cardas wires I have. I've never used a solder pot so this is uncharted territory for me. I already have a roll of Cardas...

AKG K1000: Tube or Solid State?

Good question. I bet both the Classic 30 and Classic 60 are awesome with the KKs. IMHO, the Classic series of amps from ARC are some of the best kit they ever made. I really think the classic ARC house sound in general is a perfect match for the KKs in every way. My MV55 has shockingly good...

Which Woo for Senn HD650s? WA6 or WA+3?

Well, with all the recommendations for Woo's upper-end models, I decided to scale things down for this purchase and save my money for a WA22 next year. I already have a PS Audio DL III DAC with balanced outputs so with the WA22, I'll have a completely balanced system from source to cans. As an...
