yup I have some tara labs cables--very thick--luckily, where they place the EMP is where I want it-- actually a bigger concern to me was if i move around, i might pull the emp with me--so i have the headphone cord secured to a spot on the entertainment center

make sure your tubes are plugged in well. Mine came with one of the tubes leaning slightly--it was imperceptable if you looked at it---and there was some humming (in the left channel only) for the first few minutes of warm-up. After I checked the tubes and made sure they were plugged in well...
