cheeep elpac
Hi guys, What's the word on the Elpac WM144 power supply (12 V regulated wall wart)? I know that normally the 24 V WM080 is recommended, but for less than $15 shipped, this looks like a pretty good deal: http://www.cascadesurplus.com/catalo...oducts_id/1054- kerecsen

Recommend a new calculator PLEASE
I sure as hell wouldn't allow one of these babies on any exam, even literature-related ones: http://www.hp.com/calculators/graphing/49gplus/ Not only does it have enough memory to store several complete textbooks, but you can also program it in C (http://hpgcc.org/).- kerecsen

Under $250 PC solution for Senn 555
Thank you all... I was pleasantly surprised by the resounding nature of the response. I think I will go fishing in the used amp pool and get something nice in the low hundred $s. What is the word on pimeta vs meta42?- kerecsen

Under $250 PC solution for Senn 555
Hi everyone, I have a Senn 555 that I would like to use with a PC. I'm willing to spend at most $250 to turn it into a decent source. Browsing through the forums it seems I have the following options: - Getting a (Total) Bithead ($200-280) - Getting an EMU 404 ($100) and a low-end PPA...- kerecsen

DIY speaker stands -- any ideas?
Hi everyone, I'm not sure it's acceptable to talk about speakers on head-fi, but I'll try nonetheless So here it goes: I need a couple of (about 40 cm high) speaker stands for my B&W602's but the idea of giving somebody 150 bucks for something like this revolts me. So I'm looking for...- kerecsen

Under rug swept -- quality?
Hi head-fi-ers! I've recently completed an upgrade of my main set, and realized that the abovementioned album sounds even worse than I tought. The better the equipment used the more horrible it comes out. I used to like to listen to some songs from the album on the radio with my... -
Is there an alternative or source for the EL200x buffers in the meta?
Tangent, I'm thinking about building an amp too, but I'm going to use a protoboard anyway, so the pinout is not an issue. Being in Hungary I'd prefer not to get the buffers from the US with almost as much shipping cost as their price. What would you recommend as a sonically (almost)...- kerecsen

Panasonic SL-CT570
I don't particularly care about technical data (I haven't been able to establish too much correlation between the spec sheet of a discman and it's sound quality). Do they new grundigs sound good?- kerecsen

Track 8 amused to death
On my set he's chopping something like pine. The hits indicate a harder wood but the falling splinters lean towards pine/balsa.- kerecsen

Track 8 amused to death
Finally someone who has heard both the KI's headout and some decent headamps. Where would you put the build in output: way worse than any amplifier; similar; better than some, worse than others? Thanks in advance for the info!- kerecsen

Question: meta42 vs ose6000ki headout
After some browsing of the assorted topics, the question arose in me: what would I gain by getting a meta42 to enhance the sound of my Marantz 6000ki? (Let's say I want to drive a HD600.) The CDP's headphone out is pretty decent (much better than that of the pm6010 amp), so I'm not convinced it...- kerecsen

Panasonic SL-CT790 Review (vs. Sony D-EJ1000)
Eagle_Driver, you left out one interesting detail: how does the 790 compare to the poor abandoned 470? I'm very disappointed with the sound of my iRiver 250 (compared to my age old stolen sl-s320 and my ose6000ki), and I'm trying to figure out what to buy instead...- kerecsen

The Iriver2 CD/MP3 - a short review
I hope no one will mind if I cross-post my thoughts on white noise from mp3.com's message board... The problem as far as I can tell is that the iRiver people chose to implement volume control strictly digitally. Which means that the analogue amplifier is always "turned to its highest volume"...- kerecsen

What is the difference between Panasonics (also, iRiver2 comments)
Here is another question/approach: How much better would a Marantz CD-6000 sound than one of these portables? I mostly listen to my discman at work and if I can get better sound for a bit more money (I can get one of the suckers for $250), it would definitely be worth it.- kerecsen

What is the difference between Panasonics (also, iRiver2 comments)
Could anyone tell me whether there is a difference between the Panasonic CT480 and CT580 as far as sound quality is concerned? Or is it only optics? I'm now looking to buy the best sounding PCDP out there after I tried the iRiver2 (Rio Volt 250 equivalent) and was thoroughly disappointed...- kerecsen
