Doing blind tests of your equipment isn't very expensive (actually cheap compared to the typical costs of the components involved), or very difficult.  All you need are some cables, switch boxes, an accurate voltmeter, and a friend.  I don't even do blind tests, because I can't tell a difference...

i would be pretty surprised if any human can actually hear a difference between 96 and 192kHz sampling rate.  even if there's somebody that can i doubt the difference is worth doubling the storage and processing requirements (or more, i'm not really familiar with whether or not...

it also depends on how the FR is measured.  the graphs that we see on innerfidelity and headroom, for example, are really graphs of the interaction between the headphones and measuring equipment.  since any given person's head is not going to be the same shape as the dummy head, the FR for that...

i really like the k550s as well.  at first i thought they were light on the bass end, but i discovered that was just a result of not obtaining a good seal.  to really get them sealed i have to take my glasses off (or wear them tilted a bit), which is sort of an inconvenience but basically...

just got my omens in a couple weeks ago.  they're a really nice step up in lower-mid/upper-bass performance from my previous speakers (horns from the horn shoppe).  plus they look gorgeous (mine are the black walnut finish).

if you get them aligned (*really* well) you could just difference them and actually hear what's not the same.  this is pretty interesting to do with mp3 compression since they're automatically aligned.

measurements don't tell the whole story because not everything can be measured (or measured accurately) yet.  they *could* tell the whole story though, or at least enough of it where the difference is irrelevant.

are there other cable manufacturers to look at besides monoprice for an alternative to the fiio L2 (4-inch 3.5mm-3.5mm cable)?  monoprice doesn't make them that short that i can see.  $10 for a short interconnect isn't prohibitive by any means, but i want to get 6 of them for hooking up switch...

itunes currently has 51800 tracks; about 323GB, and a little over 140 days.  i probably have another hundred or so albums worth of flac stuff.  i recently doubled my nas drive's capacity so i can start getting lossless versions of more of my favorite albums.

do you guys think there are any significant (or even audible) differences between dacs or amps, aside from whether they're powerful enough to get desired spl?  i have a small collection of amps now and got some switch boxes so i can a/b them but i haven't had the time to really get into it yet...
