Help identifying Ultimate Ears IEMs
Thank you for the info! These do definitely have a ton of bass. I am not at all a bass-head and the bass here sounds kind of muddy, lacking in detail - it's just super booming. Mids and highs are decent, but overshadowed by the low-end. Still, they are in great condition and work perfectly. I...- joe_seattle

Seattle Meet 10/2/10 impressions
Hi! I know this is pretty late after the meet...but I just realized that I left four tubes (packed into a clear ziplock/tuperwear type container) on the table accidentally at the end of the meet. I'm 98% sure since I checked the car, house, and everywhere I could think of, and I remember not... -

Need help recabling Senn PXC-250 - can't understand wiring
I just knew someone would ask...because 4 wires PER channel does seem a little crazy - but it's true. four wires per channel for a total of eight wires. See pic.- joe_seattle

Need help recabling Senn PXC-250 - can't understand wiring
I got a great thrift store deal ($10) on a good pair of Sennheiser PXC-250 noise-canceling headphones. The only issue is that the headphone jack was damaged internally and one of the channels would cut out every so often and require wiggling to get going again. I figured I could easily rewire...- joe_seattle

Seattle/Portland" Meet in the Middle"
I know it's late notice, but I'd like to go as well and am wondering who might have an extra spot in a vehicle. My gear is pretty small, unless I bring the full-size DVD player. Thanks for anyone who can help! -Joe- joe_seattle

Using just the DAC portion of a CD player?
This might seem like an odd question...is there any way to utilize just the DAC portion of a CD player, or is the connection from the laser head etc to the dac generally proprietary or player-specific? If there is a way, is relatively easy, or a real pain? I like the Rotel player I have, and...- joe_seattle

Help needed: Replacing caps in Rotel RCD-975 player
Thanks for the replies. I feel kinda foolish thinking the glue was the caps leaking...of course it would be very unlikely that ALL the caps would leak...anyway. So, I guess that saves a lot of time and money on mods. As for where I find these great bargains, Seattle (I'm told) has the largest...- joe_seattle

Help needed: Replacing caps in Rotel RCD-975 player
I bought this Rotel RCD-975 for $10 at a local thrift store...feel free to hate me and my bargain finds, like the $1200 Sony DVP-S7000 DVD player for $15. Anyway, this Rotel has the usual issue with the faulty CD tray gear that many units experience over time. It plays discs properly and all...- joe_seattle

Rotel RCD-975 question. Worth repairing?
So I have a nasty habit of picking up random electronics at the local Goodwill - Seattle's is the biggest in the country and gets some amazing units. But you have to be quick to grab them. A couple days ago I bought a Rotel RCD-975 cd player for $10. Hard to go wrong there, right? It works ok...- joe_seattle

Upgrade/sidestep from HD600? I want more forward vocals
Thanks for all the great suggestions and advice. I've tried the easiest fix, switching tubes. When I bought the Darkvoice 336i from a head-fi member over the summer, it came with a bunch of pretty good tubes. In fact, I have two different Sylvania front tubes - one with red lettering and one...- joe_seattle

Upgrade/sidestep from HD600? I want more forward vocals
It's funny how my appreciation for music, and the quality of it's reproduction, has increased since delving into this headphone world a year and a half ago. I listen almost exclusively to vocals, whether it be pop, rock, jazz, even some opera. My HD600 phones with the Cardas cable, Darvoice...- joe_seattle

Need a new source - help! Computer? DAC? USB vs. optical
Ok, I'm making it more dramatic than it really is...but essentially: my current setup sounds terrific, but isn't so flexible - Sony DVP-S7000 DVD Player --> Darkvoice 336i --> HD600 w/Cardas Cable --> my less than perfect ears. The sound quality is excellent, but I am getting tired of swapping...- joe_seattle

Can Cowon players send a digital signal out via the USB port, such that it could be used with an external USB powered DAC? And if so, does the player have enough power to run the DAC? Thanks! -Joe- joe_seattle

Best headphones for female vocals?
Ok...good timing, as I'm listening to Judy Garland's Carnegie concert right now on my HD600 phones connected to a Darkvoice 336i amp and Sony DVP-S7000 DVD player. She sounds just dynamite: ever so slightly relaxed and unstrained (unlike Grado phones for instance), full, meaty/beefy, sound that...- joe_seattle

Help me pick a <$500 source for HD600 + Darkvoice 336i
I'm having a great time with my HD600 phones and Darkvoice 336i amp (and all the fun tubes that came with it). Wondering what the next step up for a great quality source would be. I have a Sony C75ES cd player that sounds pretty good, and a Denon DCD-970 that is ok too. I also have a 30gb iPod...- joe_seattle

HD600, K340, lions, and tigers and bears...
Are you using the Marantz CD5001 --> DV 336i for your HD600? I've been thinking about getting either the CD5001 or that new Wadia ipod transport thing as a main source. Would you recommend the CD5001 as a good general-use source? Thanks!- joe_seattle

Millett "Starving Student" hybrid amp
Hi, I asked this a bit ago, but in a different forum (I think) and didn't see a response. With my AKG K340 phones connected (1/2 dynamic, 1/2 electrostatic), it appears that the electrostatic drivers cut-out or turn-off when I touch the volume knob of the amp. Any ideas on what this may indicate...- joe_seattle
