thanks for the reply The receiver is set correctly (if i switch the cable to a DVD I do get sound) Not sure how to check for SPDIF enabled on the software...

Hey fellas, I have an Maudio revolution 5.1 and I'm looking for a cheap decent quality way to record some guitar stuff through it. obviously, I'll need a mic (xm8500 ?) , but the question is will I need some sort of a pre-amp / amp to do it ? Any suggestions in the $ 20-40 range ? Cheers...
