    Hotrodding the X-Fi: A Layman's Guide (No 56k)

Right you are sir, I jumped the gun. The page also has a linky on it to one where you can choose whether or not to have a dip socket installed (link). btw, if you take a look back a few pages in this thread, there are some examples of homemade adapters as well.

Creative X-Fi or Asus Xonar ?

xonar d2x (the pci-express version) has an lm4562 for the front l/r channels, texas instruments for the surrounds. (nigh impossible to replace op-amps, closely encircled by rectangular caps - film? polycarbonate?) I've had an op-amp modded xtrememusic, modded elite, stock prelude, and stock...

Best in ear headphone for under $50.(Basshead)

ep630 < cx300 < akg K 324 p I've had all 3, and though they're all similar, there are improvements as you go up, for instance, the bass is tighter with the akg's.

Help repairing op-amp solder pads on an X-Fi Elite Pro

I've swapped out soic op-amps on several X-Fi's in the past without incident, but on this particular card I wasn't careful and rushed, popping off 6-8 solder pads (top two op-amp mounts, bottom two are fine). Can anyone help me fix this card, or point me to someone who could (I'm in Carlsbad...

Odd Creative X-Fi can you identify this chip?

I didn't even notice driver issues since I just use Youp PAX drivers and apps with any Creative Sound Card. Still, does anyone know what the chip on the back is for? (if anyone really wants the card, pm me with an offer)

    Upgrading sound quality on laptop?

Under $50? At that price point, if you're not worried about getting the absolute best sq for your buck, mebbies consider a consumer level non-usb soundcard. No unwieldly external boxes, nor loose cables (bwaha, floozies!), and if you're into gaming, you also get hardware acceleration and eax...

Odd Creative X-Fi can you identify this chip?

I bought an odd X-Fi SB0770 that I've never seen in retail. Built in toslink jacks, standard front audio pinout, dedicated rear/side jacks *none of this 4 pole 3.5mm plug business* and a chip on the back of the PCB I've never seen before, anyone know what the Creative CA0112-1AT LF is for...

Various miscellany, Shure E2C, AKG K701, Soundcards, etc.

All the *real* X-Fi cards can output without resampling, the ones I've tried worked well in foobar via asio (I haven't tried kernel streaming). eax5.0 in gaming mode was just an added bonus I know there's alot of driver support grumbling about creative on the net, but I have had no problems...

Best headphones for gaming without needing a dedicated amp?

I understand the hesitation on jumping onto a dedicated amp for gaming, but if you haven't tried out cans with one before and aren't 100% certain you don't want one, I have a spare xenos 0ha-rep I might be willing to let you try out if you're in the con-us. It's a nice little amp at a fairly low...

Best headphones for gaming without needing a dedicated amp?

My closed Beyer DT770's/80 are great with games, cmss3d on my auzen prelude with them is fantastic for taking down n00bs trying to sneak up behind me for a melee, I don't bother with my Senns HD595's or HD280pros for gaming now. Lightweight yet have a reliable feel in construction, no worries...

    1. Super.Fi 3 / UHP336 are comparable with the e2c's. Not 100% certain, I heard second hand that the UHP336's cord is more resilient to wear than the super.fi's (for the super.fi's can always buy a replacement from UE, free during the 2 year warranty) 3. more info needed, type of...

    external hard drive recommendation

I'd recommend finding an internal sata hard drive (can find better prices under 1tb and typically comes with a better warranty, compared to externals) Samsungs tend to be really quiet. Then just purchase an enclosure that fits your needs. I got a nice one that has both esata and usb2.0 for $15...

I recently ordered an iBasso D1 and it arrived with LT 6241 on dac, LT 1364 L/R, and LMH6643 for buffers. All smt with soic-dip adapters, and yes, there are still dip sockets perfect for op-amp rolling underneath. Thought some curious minds might like to see what the new iBasso D1's ship...
