Recabling isn’t recommended as you can easily destroyed the driver in the process. This may happens during the driver removable process. The back of the driver of every R10 is glued to the ear cup and removing it could rip the voice coil causing the damage to the diaphragm. I have done that...- purk

Sony MDR-MV1
The D9200 to me is better than the stock MV1 for sure. With a directly modded done, the two are almost a side step but the D9200 is still better. I am traveling to Thailand soon and I want to take the MV1 with me. Knowing how hot and humid it is going to be, I much prefer leather earpads for...- purk

I have the furutech 4.4 mm on mine but the length is the cable length is about the same as original. I bought Nobunaga OFC 4.4 mm jack recently for around $75 and may shorten the cable to around 5-ft and use this 4.4 mm plug instead for a slight upgrade in sound quality. Do you use 4.4 mm on...- purk

I get that, but why not just reterminate it? Those OFC 4.4 can improve the sound compared to stock 1/4” from Sony. I may shorten the cord on my R10 this weekend.- purk

You still don’t get a balanced drive on the R10 so I don’t see the point. Reterminating isn’t too difficult and you can use better 4.4 mm than stock. Nobunaga and Pentaconn do make 4.4 mm jack.- purk

this will be an an easy job for Steve but someone local should be able to assist as well. You probably pay more in shipping back and forth than the actual repair cost. May need to buy new 3.5 mm jacks as well. Eidolic or Furutech are great but expensive.- purk

I don’t live near the sea or the shore line. Five years is a long time man and those Sony jacks may just have reached the end of their life. Honestly I don’t know what cause this though but why not just get those jack replaced locally?- purk
