Albums that are physically/mentally/emotionally exhausting, yet highly recommended?

Vast, timeless music that is perfectly described by the album title.  A late night, loud volume headphone session with it, especially the track 'Oort', should be required listening for electronic/ambient listeners.

    Robert Rich anyone?

I'm a huge Robert Rich fan - I have most of his CDs and have even had the pleasure of corresponding with him (very sharp and nice guy).   It sounds like you're into his more melodic stuff, so you should check out Electric Ladder, Gaudi, Geometry, Ylang, and Rainforest.    He also has...

    Any Drum N' bass recommendations?

Breakage, Amit, Dom & Roland, Klute, Limewax and when you're feeling crazy, Venetian Snares and Xanopticon.   Prodigy is more breakbeat than DnB, though the two genres are very closely related (one of the early names of jungle music was 'hardcore breakbeats').

Bijou All Tube Futterman Headphone Amplifier

Sure - you could even use a 4-gang switch with only a few positions, if you knew what value sounded good with your low Z cans.

    Super Street Fighter IV

I'm a bit late to the party, but I picked up SSF4 for XBox despite really not liking vanilla SF4 (I had way too many good memories of SF2/SF2T/SSF2 from back in the day to let one bad weekend rental change my mind).   I agree with the opinions expressed here - I think this is a considerably...

Can anyone recommend some great ambient music for studying?

Quote: Nowhere did I say that I always listen to ambient music softly or that I always follow the instructions in a CD liner.  I've had what could only be described as 'cosmic' experiences listening to the right ambient albums in the right frame of mind, but those can't be candidly...

Can anyone recommend some great ambient music for studying?

Quote: That's a closed-minded approach to ambient music listening.   Sure, some ambient music rewards deep, intensive listening; the sonic holograms of Matt Hillier, the deep, tribal undulations of Steve Roach and the ethereal acoustic mandalas of Alio Die spring to mind.  But most of...

    Workout Music

Breakbeats, Dubstep and Drum N' Bass:

I would heartily recommend the latest album by Vex'd, Cloudseed. It's a dark, rumbling, gritty, industrial exploration of the dubstep sound. Like Burial's Untrue, it's much more suited for home listening than a dance floor. For a preview, check out the track 'Nails' - there's something seriously...

R.I.P. Peter Steele (Type O Negative)

Heard the news a few hours ago...hard to believe. He was considered such a juggernaut back in my metal-listening days, and had a great and unique voice. RIP Pete.

    Prog-house, anyone?

They still make prog house? :P Seriously, I have about 3 crates of the stuff from 2000-2005. There was some truly great music released in the various periods - I saw the sound go from dark and tribal to bright and melodic and then to synthetic and minimal. Some highlights: -James Holden's...

The most downright depressive song you have ever heard

Nice to see instrumental/electronic getting some love here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgg61oqqE7k This song, to me, sounds like what may be playing in your head as you walk away from your former lover after a painful, heartbreaking separation.

Going to NYC on Saturday and in need of an amp for HD650!

Your best bet is probably Audio Cubes downtown (AudioCubes.com - Contact AC Your Way.) but I'm not sure if they have amps. There's also B&H but they are closed on Saturday, and I'm not sure they have amps either. Headphone amps are a pretty niche product, not often found in brick & mortar stores.

Breakbeats, Dubstep and Drum N' Bass:

leeperry, I have several of those tracks on vinyl...thanks for the trip down memory lane! For more modern acts, I've already mentioned Noisia, but another guy definitely worth checking out is DJ Hidden - I think his tunes have the highly-compressed frenetic percussion and crazy, punishing...

Breakbeats, Dubstep and Drum N' Bass:

Noisia's full-length is either released or about to be released. Anyone who's been paying attention to the jungle scene for the last 4 or so years has surely heard of these guys... The track 'Sunhammer' with Amon Tobin is a BEAST. I want to hear it played on a large PA before I die.

Best New York Style Pizza in NYC?

One good spot is Pizza Supreme, which is on 8th and around W 31st. Get your slices 'extra crispy'. I also love the 99 Cent Fresh Pizza shack, on 9th Ave and W 41st. It's the original 99 cent pizza place (there's been a surge of 99 cent pizza places lately, but I think the original is still...
