ZMF Verite Closed-New Closed Back ZMF Flagship.

I'm extremely impressed by how VC sound from monitor outputs on the Prism Lyra. They need a bit less gain than LCD-2s, which surprised me. However, being dynamic coil headphones, they'll vary in frequency response between different amps more than planars. So the quest for a perfect amp should be...

ZMF Verite Closed-New Closed Back ZMF Flagship.

Agreed. For anyone who was on the hunt back in 2007 and 2008, it's especially so. All of the best headphones from the 2000s had been discontinued. The HD800s and JH13s finally broke that drought in 2009. As for the VC wait, I'm currently on week 12. Perhaps ZMF got bogged down filling...

MrSpeakers ETHER Flow and ETHER C Flow -- Inspired by Electrostatic Headphones

Having installed the upgrade yesterday, I'm impressed so far. It seems to achieve every claim advertised. The new tuning pad options are excellent. The black foam really dials in my system. For $30, it's a no brainer. If Mr. Speakers wants to improve brand loyalty, this is a superb way. I first...

Hello Joe. It seems I've lost permission to edit my signature as well. I clicked on Currawong's link and got an "Insufficient Permissions" message. Thanks.

    Android phones and USB DACs

Too bad. It seems Google changed up the way USB audio works for Nougat. This may drive me to a custom rom down the road. I take back what I said about the headphone output being bad for streaming. It's just Soundcloud.   In the mean time, it would be nice to have a quality but small DAC/Amp...

    Android phones and USB DACs

You may need to select "Audio Source" in the "Select USB Configuration" section of the developer options to get system USB audio to work. I haven't found the Pixel XL headphone out to be that bad when playing files stored internally. Streaming goes very wrong though. A software fix is seriously...

MrSpeakers ETHER Flow and ETHER C Flow -- Inspired by Electrostatic Headphones

I signed up for the upgrade the first day Dan added it to his site. I never got the follow up email he sent out to all those who added themselves to the list. Should I assume I never got added then?

MrSpeakers ETHER Flow and ETHER C Flow -- Inspired by Electrostatic Headphones

Agreed. I quite like the Ether Cs for the office. They isolate better than any closed headphones I've had before. They're obviously much less isolating than custom IEMs. I'm glad Vlad is getting into high end headphones. While he doesn't yet know what he's talking about, I trust he will eventually.

MrSpeakers ETHER Flow and ETHER C Flow -- Inspired by Electrostatic Headphones

+30 points for talking up the Miraculous Mandarin. Glad the C Flows depict it well. I hope to get the C upgrade sometime soon to hear for myself.

MrSpeakers ETHER C Review / Announcement - A New Closed-Back Planar Magnetic Flagship from MrSpeakers

Congratulations to Mr. Speakers on what I'd call the most positive review by Tyll at Inner Fidelity that I've read in years. Having had the Ether Cs for about a month now, I think his rave review was justified. Way to go Dan.

MrSpeakers ETHER C Review / Announcement - A New Closed-Back Planar Magnetic Flagship from MrSpeakers

I've had the Ether Cs, version 1.1, for just over a week now. I'm extremely impressed. These are the full sized closed back unicorns I've been waiting for. The only compromise I hear from the closed back is a smaller soundstage. That's the best thing to compromise, as it's not sacrificing any...

MrSpeakers ETHER C Review / Announcement - A New Closed-Back Planar Magnetic Flagship from MrSpeakers

Thanks for mentioning stuff on bandcamp guys. It's the best site, from the perspective of both a consumer and an artist. I'll offer this musical example, which I look forward to hearing on the Ether Cs I just ordered:   https://bleepsequence.bandcamp.com/album/blpsq049-sodag   And what the...

MrSpeakers ETHER C Review / Announcement - A New Closed-Back Planar Magnetic Flagship from MrSpeakers

As someone planning on ordering a pair soon, I'll second this question. Also, can anyone tell me if each pair comes with a frequency response measurement? I EQ my headphones as close to neutral as possible. Seeing the peaks and valleys makes the task vastly less difficult. That's not to say the...

    Chord Mojo(1) DAC-amp ☆★►FAQ in 3rd post!◄★☆

Now that I've complained about the noise floor, let me issue some positives. First, the floor is still below that in most acoustic recordings. It's not that bad. Second, I've got a decent parametric EQ curve created for use with a resistor adapter. It's worth the trouble, because this thing...

    Chord Mojo(1) DAC-amp ☆★►FAQ in 3rd post!◄★☆

Clarification: I'm not using Roxannes and HD800s at the same time.  What I'm saying is that by giving the Mojo amp enough power and gain to get the HD800s listenable, it becomes too noisy for IEM use.  This is especially annoying for me, as a portable amp can take high end CIEMs to the top...

    Chord Mojo(1) DAC-amp ☆★►FAQ in 3rd post!◄★☆

Likewise, I'm sure there's a pickup truck that could exceed its listed tow limit by many times and actually pull an oversize load. I'm sure one could tweak the pickup's engine to improve performance more yet. But in the end, it'll still be dramatically inferior at the task compared to an 18...

    Chord Mojo(1) DAC-amp ☆★►FAQ in 3rd post!◄★☆

I won't contest that claim.  No doubt, there's quite a range in sensitivity between CIEMs.  Likewise, there's a big range in sensitivity between listeners.  Unfortunately, using JHA Roxannes, the noise floor is clearly audible to me.  Be glad if it's not in your set up, because the Mojo puts...

    Chord Mojo(1) DAC-amp ☆★►FAQ in 3rd post!◄★☆

I picked up a Mojo yesterday.  As many have previously indicated, the DAC is exceptional.  I compared it to the Hugo DAC using the Leckerton UHA-6S amp to control for differences in the Mojo and Hugo’s respective amp sections.  I couldn’t hear a difference.  Both devices have really upped the...

MrSpeakers ETHER C Review / Announcement - A New Closed-Back Planar Magnetic Flagship from MrSpeakers

The frequency response looks quite good, apart from the dip at nine kHz and peak at 10.5. A little parametric EQ should fix both. The white pad seems to take it a little closer to the Harmon target response. I can't wait to hear them for myself Dan. I'm hoping these really are the unicorn closed...

Has anyone yet seen anything about USB C audio adapter cables?  I assume it's just a matter of time, and I hope the new format allows a bit more built in flexibility with signals travelling both ways.

After you've had some on head time, I hope you'll compare and contrast the sound of the Ether C to that of the HE1000 and the open Ether.

MrSpeakers ETHER C Review / Announcement - A New Closed-Back Planar Magnetic Flagship from MrSpeakers

Has anyone measured these yet?  I keep hoping they'll turn out to be the closed back unicorn.  I expect measurements would show if there were any glaring cup resonance problems normally associated with closed backs.

    SchiitShow 2015 Impressions

Make sure you consider the recording piece of the equation.  Most new acoustic recordings are close miced to create just the sound you described.  Reflections from the hall also get butchered by this approach.  Despite the rubbish converters available before the 2000s, older recordings often...
