    PCDP with Optical Out

Dog, As elnero mentioned JMT kindly helps out the electronically challenged and does a very good job in the process. The Altoids he built me sounds good, was excellent value for my money and the workmanship is excellent. You may have to wait in line for a bit but it is certainly worth it...

    PCDP with Optical Out

I wish to upgrade my office system (Sony D99/Altoids CHA47) and am considering a DAC/PCDP combination as my source. What I need is a list of PCDPs with optical out, either current or older models (quite happy to wait for one on EBay). I'm only interested in upgrading the source at present so...

Marantz CD63 KI Signature: to buy or not to buy? [kinda urgent]

Seems like a reasonable price, they go for approx £160 on EBay here in the UK. I paid £350 about 4 years ago for mine and have never regretted it. Currently thinking of upgrading it though with something in the £1000 - £1500 range. Your profile doesn't list a current CDP so can't advise if...

    punk rockers...where are you

Excellent topic Blink. Been on the lookout for some decent up to date punk. Very old school myself, although i have discovered Rancid and Dropkick Murphys to my taste in recent times. Hopefully pick up a few new bands to audition from this thread Feel in the mood for some punk now...

    best of the eighties!!

Kieran, U2, REM, The Smiths in the same breath as Joy Division, Echo and Bunnymen, and the Clash???? I saw U2 support SLF in Glasgow 1979/80 and therefore have never purchased a single LP/CD by them (heard them on Top of the Pops since then - no improvement). However, I must agree the...

    Blank Minidiscs

Quote: You use a Sharp's portable (or its clone) I suppose? No. I use a Sony MZ-R50.

    Blank Minidiscs

I will be staying away from TDK in future. Recently bought a 10 pack of RXG 74's and so far have had >40% error rate. Of the 10 discs :- 4 are fine, 2 Disc errored as soon as I loaded them, 1 Recorded but continuously TOC Errors on playback and 3 are still in their wrappers

MD line out goodness (sony r50)

RedShifter, My R50 eject mechanism is exactly the same. I bought it used from Ebay and assumed it was maybe just tired. Encouraging to hear it is designed that way and not on it's last legs.

    This Mortal Coil anyone?

Demetrio, It'll End In Tears is worth it for "Song To The Siren" alone. Still got the 7" vinyl somewhere (have to have a rake), I used to use it when demoing equipment many moons ago.

    multiple headphones?

Audio, You've got to have a bunch of lesser toys (rules of the game unfortunatley) to allow you to realise just how good your super toy is

My HD 600s have arrived [in need of amp]

My recently received Peppermint JMT (thanks again Jon) sounds very nice with my Marantz CDP and HD600's - diminishing returns already kicking in. JMT altoids (CHA 47) is very nice, you get better, but are you prepared to pay the premium. Not long into headphone systems but based on speaker...

    multiple headphones?

IMO It boils down to what you get for your money. Good headphones give you major bang for pounds (sorry i ain't American). Also you get a little box, compared to speakers, through the post. A decent set of speakers cost £500+ and are large, you can pack 3 or 4 very presentable cans into that sort...

    Calling UK HeadFiers

Can anyone recommend a source for a decent mini-mini stereo cable to allow connection of a PCDP lineout to a portable amp.

Senn HD250 II OR Beyer DT250-80?

Haven't heard the Senns but I would second the vote for Beyer DT250-80's. I use mine at work from portable sources and they've helped me through many a boring day Just received my JMT and the Beyers just sound better and better by the hour I think I could happily live with them as my sole...

    Portable sound without diminishing returns

The Beyer DT250-80's have a detachable cord. It is quite a substantial plug which can be screwed in place if required.

At last my very own MZ-R50

Just been successful on EBay and picked up an excellent condition 1999 Silver MZ-R50 (still awaiting delivery) Two quick questions : 1. I'm not getting an optical interconnect as part of the deal. My Marantz CDP has optical out so i assume i need a mini-Toslink to Toslink cable? If so...

What is the absolutely WORST album/cd you ever bought?

Anything by U2. Saw them supporting Stiff Little Fingers in 1979/1980'ish and thought "Not too bad - i'll buy an album". Can't remember the title "Setting Sun" or something like that , only had about 6 or 7 tracks on it. What a load of drivel.

    Are these beyerdynamic dt250-80?

Miroslav, Don't look anything like my Beyers. Mine are all black with single sided spiral cord - cord in the photo looks straight. They are of similar design, though the headband looks slightly more padded and the earpads look vinyl as opposed to velour (might just be the flash though)...

    Headphones for protable MD

pv544, Good alternative to the Sony V6 in the UK is the Beyer DT250-80's. Can be had for about 85 notes and are realtively easy to drive (80 Ohms as the name implies).

    Headphone Amp Woes

I need someone to convince me that spending a pile on a headphone amp is going to satisfy my lust for audiophilic Can listening. Easily obtainable options in the UK are the Earmax Pro and the Sugden Headmaster. These require £400-£600 outlay and based on my recent purchases i'm starting to...
