Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier

I'm not coming from an ASR perspective here, I've tested things myself for 8+ years and went from evereything to a Fiio E10k, Chord Mojo, Dave, M-scalers, Optical isolation, streamers ,etc before throwing money at dCS. I also use a power conditioner and a power regenerator, both of which make...

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier

Well i’m proud of us. It took 96 pages before we got to “tuning” the Hm1 with the classic audiophile crap:) good effort

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier

This seems like the wrong way to do it. I have my Rossini to 0db at all times, outputting 6V for the Expanse and Stealth ( had it on 2V for the Meze Elites) and no gain on HM1. Why would you want digital attenuation? As good as the dCS is compared to Chord for example, throwing away bits and...

    Focal Utopia 2022 Review, Measurements

I would be interested in trading my Ca-1a for a Utopia 2022, but i see you are just now building a source chain and contrary to what others think, it does make a huge difference, especially with the Raals. They are very transparent to source gear and very hard to drive. Which is the reason I'm...

    Focal Utopia 2022 Review, Measurements

As a GSX 1000 owner, I disagree. It's a gaming soundcard that is the best I've heard for 3d audio, but unusable for music imo. Even when I had a Fiio E10k and subsequently Mojo, they were always miles ahead. The GSX applies the same "gaming" eq even in stereo mode, there's just no overriding it.

    Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

Is that a discount for the package, or the price for the naked headphone?

I feel your pain :) I would give the DCA Expanse a listen as well. That's my current benchmark bar none.

No issues with mine either, and i've handled it quite a bit.

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier

It's been quite a while since i've done the comparison. I will say at the very end of my Dave ownership, I found Roon's CF to be slightly more transparent, but I was missing that bass EQ Rob did on top of the CF. I will also add the disclaimer that I have yet to upgrade to the public release...

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier

I mean, not to be a contrarian here, but for measured technical performance, the HM1 comes out on top objectively. Then again people like their tube amps so I get how more/the right kind of distortion is desirable. For timbre, I attribute that to the dac, and just want the amp to be as neutral...

    Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

I mean that was the main draw for me. ASR's (not a fan) review called the Ca-1a "a tweeter trying to play bass and mid", due to the high distortion in those frequencies. I expected 3 different ribbons for 3 areas of the FR, in an attempt to fix that. And I could see that complexity justify the...

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier

FWIW , being used to the soundstage knob on the HM1, i keep it on all the time (1st step), found myself reaching for it even when listening to the He-1 (as dumb as I looked doing it), and could never go back to Dave's CF. The Rossini's Expanse is arguably better, but I still keep it off. The...

    Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

Well to be fair , this was all my fault, I thought it would've been quicker than doing a background check on Raal 1995 with Serbian authorities, lol. Feel free to blame me, I've been skipping rope with the line here for years as well :)

    Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

Creating a whole new brand for higher end offerings indicates a new pricing tier, clearly above the old ones. IE Magna will probably cost more than the SR1b. The only reason why this would not be the case, would be a falling out with the partners involved in the old brand ( so legal reasons).

    Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

Fwiw, I think it's the best piece of Hi-fi I bought, after the Rossini and clock combo. It everything really does sound the best i've heard it. In class A it sounds slightly cleaner than any other amp, bar the HPA4, which has other issues and is just not enjoyable. In class A+ it's just a level...
