The ++ indicates an improved version. The Little Dot II+ has problems with tube arcing. The II++ fixed that problem.

When I owned an iPod (Mac-formatted), XP would usually tell me that it needed to be formatted when I plugged it in. If it doesn't do that, you can always use the free trial of MacDrive 7 to get XP to recognize the iPod - then you'll be able to format it. I'm not sure if iTunes will recognize...
