Perhaps Stax & Hifiman look like sterile in your setup... IMHO, i.e. Stax l700, Stax X9000 and Hifiman Jade II are not sterile bright tuned.

Using the Susvara, I've two option: +6dB and +12 dB due to the headphone low sensitivity. IMHO I prefer +12dB.

I've tried the DHA V380 and it was an excellent amplifier with a very good DAC. Now i've tried the DHA V590 mkII PRO and it's even better. With both ampliers no problem with bass range. I've listened the 380 with the Hifiman HE1000 v2 and the 590 with the Hifiman Susvara.

Testing and comparing the new E70V with the Metrum Onyx DAC3. The ampli is the Meghahertz OTL.

Right! Tube amps, particularly OTL, can drive the HD800 in a superb way.

As I already told you, this is your opinion.

I'm pretty sure that the HD800 will sound very loud when connected to the MBP. At the same time, I'm not so sure that the HD800 will sound at its best without a dedicated headphone (tube) amplifier.

No chance for 009 and 009S. X9000 is far ahead as sound quality (IMHO). But we are talking about Stax TOTL headphones. 009S is an excellent headphone but now we have the new "queen".

I'm listening the X9K with my amplifier, as shown in photo. I can tell you that the difference with the 700S is tangible. As I said in a previous post, better chain = better results. The amplifier is essential to drive the X9K at the top.

As usual, with these kind (TOTL) of headphones, we should use the best chain we can in order to get the best results. Starting from the source, through the cables up to the amplifier. Otherwise, you'll never know what the 9000 can do. Enjoy the 9000.

The new "Queen" is working from 5 days. IMHO is a great improvement compared to 009 and 009S.

I couldn't compare the DAC with the RME but I did it with Topping D90. There's no game! The V380 internal DAC is really better than Topping D90. More natural sound, better capacity to place instruments on the stage...god job by V380.

The DAC embedded in the 380 is very good. Obviously there are better DACs but they they will cost you how much or more of the 380. Mine was a general speech that I believe is valid for any headphone system. Regards, Carlo

For my taste, my preferred genres are Classical and Jazz, I like very much the Stax sound. I've listened Stax 009, 007 mkII, L700, L500 and L300 together with Stax Amplifier (006tS, 700T and 700S) and custom amplifiers. IMHO a Stax combo with an external DAC (I used with STAX the Metrum Onyx DAC...

Of course my impression was related to the combo (Violectric + Hifiman). Moreover I tried the HD800 with the Violectric but I clearly prefer my OTL instead of Violectric.

I can assume the difference will be substantial.
