Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

In response to the request for favorite tunes, here are a few of mine: 1) Lara Fabian performing ‘l'homme qui n'avait pas de maison’; (The homeless man’). (My 3 years of French in high school do have a use!) 2) Judy Collins singing one of Donovan’s pieces of head music: ‘Sonny Goodge...

Better than duct tape is gaffer tape: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaffer_tape I never heard of it until I retired and started working as a volunteer sound tech for a children's theater. Costs 2 to 3 times as much as duct tape, but performs so much better! The medical grade adhesive can be...

Not sure if I am qualified to comment, but FWIW: I use a pair of Senn HD-600 and like them very much. My older grandson was thinking of buying a pair, having found mine pleasing. But he ended up with Meze Audio 99 Classics--both because they are closed back, and are so comfortable. I can't...

Not crazy at all. Simply fantastic! Why not give a sample? NPR has had them for at least two of their Tiny Desk Concerts. Here is the newer one. https://www.npr.org/2020/04/28/844282914/rodrigo-y-gabriela-tiny-desk-home-concert Cheers, Jim

Congrats!!! As a grandparent of two (now kinda young adults), I can say with conviction that grand parenthood is everything it's cracked up to be! Enjoy!

I strongly recommend you use the Deoxit on switches & connectors. For pots & sliders, use fader lube!

And sometimes, it's fun to listen to total nonsense, like this acid trip inspired piece by Donovan, covered by Judy Collins. On the firefly platform on sunny Goodge Street violent hash-smoker shook a chocolates machine, involved in an eating scene. Smashing into neon lights in their...

If they like the effect of the added resistor, who am I to say that it's the wrong thing to do? Some of us don't have the disposable income to buy & try many amps to find the 'perfect combination'. But advice from other knowledgeable individuals (maybe from a place like this forum) could...

Well.... If you are running multi-way speakers, you may find resistors in the cross-over---perhaps to match levels from the different drivers, or for baffle step correction. (BSC should be covered in speaker design books, but you might look at Martin King's web site for a bit about them...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Please don't kill off receivers! I have been enjoying the Sansui (below) since Feb. 1972. And just this afternoon, was listening to the Philadelphia Orchestra 'on the air'. Yes, I know, you can listen over the internet, but I'm both old and old fashioned. (And no, I don't got no stinkin' AVR...

I believe void free plywood is superior to MDF. And plywood is much more stable than solid wood. Only the most skilled wood crafters can build speakers from solid wood and not have them fail with cracks/splits.

BIBs are apple ply with mahogany stained pine edge strips to cover the ply edges and Baltic birch piece holding the driver (to gain a little spacing from the divider board which forms the horn channel). The OBs are just plywood veneered with birch. The Fonkens are Baltic birch with red oak...

I can manage to build using plywood then veneer to get a finished piece that my wife considers acceptable in the living room. I will never be able to build something so beautiful in solid wood! My hat is off to you!! Cheers, Jim

OK, here are pics of a few builds: First two pics are 3 systems in our bedroom (taken some years ago to judge by the TV!). Left to right: Bigger Is Better (BIB) variously referred to as a tapped horn or a pipe horn using Mark Audio Alpair 10M driver; mouth faces the ceiling & uses ceiling &...

Since folks are talking about test tracks they use for speakers: Below are the quality tracks I used back before I started building my own speakers; this was 2 decades back. I made a CD to take around to shops & usually left the test CD so the sales people could listen for themselves at their...

OK. I'll be waiting. Most of what I have built are single, full range (wide band) drivers, so most folks probably wouldn't like what I build. It's a shame you are so far away, if you were closer, you could stop by & see/hear if you might like SFRDs. Not everyone's cuppa, but if you can do...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

OK, I'll comment on this. The short answer is no; hell no. BUT, if there was an expressed need and desire, then yes. A couple years ago, my daughter wanted me to help her find a new vacuum. After talking with her about it and determining what she wanted, she indicated that she couldn't...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Only had one MRI of my brain. It felt like someone was tickling my brain & just wanted to laugh! It was an older, closed in type. Didn't feel claustrophobic because there was a nice, constant air flow; if there had not been a perceptible air flow, I might have panicked, what with being closed...

We had a good many trick-or-treaters, though not as many as previous years. And they did not ring the bell this year, as we had the candy sitting on a table for them to pick-up w/o any personal interaction. My wife waved at them through the glass door, commenting on their costumes. Must be...

So I have to ask: Why did you need a second car? Perhaps my memories from more than half a century ago are wrong, but I thought the 2CV could be kept running essentially forever. Cheers, Jim
